Its the start of a New Year, and with that Id like to give you all my New Years Resolutions with respect to Free Republic. Are there any New Years Resolutions youd like to make for the benefit of FR? Some examples that come to mind are, fewer personal attacks. Debate the message, dont personally attack the poster. Maybe your resolution will be to post fewer vanities, or to post vanities to chat. Another resolution might be to search prior to posting threads. Whatever you might strive to do for Free Republic, let us know. Maybe youd like to make amends with a certain poster. Give it a shot.
My personal New Year's Resolution to Free Republic:
Id like to be better at answering your questions via mail and pings. We do get busy, and sometimes your questions get lost in the sheer volume. So, Ill resolve to try better to answer your inquiries. If you dont get an answer in a day or two, please ask again.
Happy New Year, Free Republic! Its going to be a fun year!

Happy New Year and God bless.

sweetliberty, by the time I logged on to FR, the Mod ping list had been edited out...it's now "history." But, if that option is re-edited....I certainly would love to be on a zot ping list, lol! : )
To: Admin Moderator
I want on your ping list......PLEASE! Happy New Year on this first day of 2004. Your pay raise is in the mail. LOL

Read this post, then see where it differs from the original post...the zot ping list ain't in the new post! Maybe you can manage to arm-twist?
To: nicmarlo; Admin Moderator
Maybe their ZOT ping was getting too hugh and they cut it off.
Or maybe the cool mod left and the one with no sense of humor came on duty and the other mods got in trouble. Why DID you pull that part of the post?

Some examples that come to mind are, fewer personal attacks.
Speaking only for myself, here is my "ad hominen" attack policy.
When Attacked:
1. Act Presidential. Follow Honest Abe's policy: write out a stinging rebuke. Enjoy
the superior logic and pointed replies. Put "the letter" into the drawer for
awhile (Lincoln always put them in a desk drawer overnight).
Then imitate Lincoln's example of throwing the hot letters into the trash can: delete it.
2. Fully consider the possiblity (no matter how remote!) that the attacker is right!
Or maybe partly right.
3. If your memory is good enough...recollect that the attacker is someone that you
agreed with 200% on some other thread.
4. Consider that you may be the victim of a mis-addressed missive, or your
adversary is responding to part of your post that was not really clear.
5. Craft a response that's lucid, debates the actual issue at hand, and just
ignore the heat that came your way as much as possible. Be the first to extend
the olive branch. If repulsed, at least you did what you could.
To reduce odds of launching the attack (come on, you know we all do it...or at least
contemplate it at times)
1. Don't do it.
2. If you want to do it, go to another thread. Let your subconsious use the
hot energy to craft a REALLY good repsonse that is right on-point on the issues.
3. Be gentle as possible...if you're like me, you might contemplate flaming on
a "bad day". Try to short-circuit the human impulse to shout at other posters...
when you really are frustrated because you can't shout at the boss, spouse, kids, friends,
jerky neighbor.
Peace on Earth in 2004.
Except for good-natured "rough-and-tumble" at www.freerepublic.com!
Oh, death and confusion to OBL and all his fellow travelers!

Me too.
I have never made resolutions, because I work on a more daily basis, but I am going to get into a regular bible study this year.

I don't get it either, but I see her video all the time on MTV2, VH1 Soul, MTV Jams, etc., and it seems like it's some big dirty joke that I don't get.
To: Admin Moderator
I think you guys should run the forum with an iron fist and exile anyone who disagrees to
here.
