Bloomberg Fumes as Congressman Says to Avoid Times Square

Two left-of-center Republicans are feuding over whether it's safe to be in Times Square tonight.

According to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Rep. Christopher Shays of Connecticut is as yellow as a Frenchman for being too scared to show up at America's most famous New Year's Eve celebration.

Shays said Tuesday that he wouldn't go to Times Square "for anything."

"Secretary Ridge says just do what you normally do," the congressman told WVIT-TV. "I would say, what do you normally do? If normally you go to Times Square, I wouldn't do what you normally do.

"I wouldn't go into places when you're packed and where if there was panic a lot of injuries would take place."

Bloomie retorted today said that former Iraq POW Shoshana Johnson would be taking part in the festivities at Times Square.

"She was a woman fighting to protect the congressman's freedoms," hizzoner said on NBC's "Today" show. "She was captured and wounded in Iraq. Maybe he should call her and learn a little bit about courage."

Shays is a coward. He should've said he'd be avoiding Times Square because there would be too much cigarette smoking going on.

Neither would I. Not because I'm afraid of terrorists, but because I've been on Times Square on New Year's Eve, and it sucked.

It sucked? Then Shays should feel right at home in Times Square on New Year's Eve.

Don't ya just love it........ when RINOs attack? At least when they attack each other.

yeah, but this Shays is right..I live in NYC and wouldn`t go into Times Square either, not because of the terrorist thing, but the whole place is an absolute freggin` madhouse since that freggin` midget took over. I was down there last week and you can barely walk down the street never mind the sidewalk. The place is literally covered with street vendors, every square foot of the sidewalk, one right after the other side by side. They had a story about it as well in the NY Post today, check it out. Now if some fire broke out, or some other thing happened where people would have to be evacuated fast, forget about it. You might as well say your prayers. Times Square is death trap waiting to happen, you literally walk in inches in the crush of people, but this Bloomberg couldn`t care less, just like everything else except for smoking. Smoking is the #1 priority to this idiot. If Guliani was mayor, those vendors would be gone in seconds whether the law expired or not. It`s beyond a safety hazard down there and I don`t even want to think about what ambulances or firetrucks go through!

Bloomberg is an embarassment to the party. I like to pretend he doesn't exist and remember when Guilani had the city under control.

IMO: Bloomblatt/feld/berg/whatever... is a fool and his words always prove him so. Alright, granted, his job IS to hump-up the city's reputation and tourism but still...

Shays said Tuesday that he wouldn't go to Times Square "for anything."
Lessee: pickpockets, thugs, INFLUENZA, gettinghtehellouttathere, pocketbombers, snipers a looong way away... Uh huh.

Bloomie retorted today said that former Iraq POW Shoshana Johnson would be taking part in the festivities at Times Square. An invited guest, prepaid, a celebrity, sure - if I didn't have to worry about the details... How many other of the Military did bloom[something] invite? Or - how many wouldn't accept an invitation from him?

Hey bloom[whatever] - read between the lines:

I imagine Christopher Shays may be able to sleep ok just after gobbling up his cookies and milk in a 1960s-built bomb shelter at his lavish Connecticut estate.
