Yes, quite a lengthy thread.
WITH A WHISPER, NOT A BANG (Patriot Act II signed by President on December 13, 2003)
There IS some PATRIOT Act opposition on this site, but not as much as probably should be. The responses are usually like:
- How have YOU been negatively effected? (CFR won't effect me much, but I still recognize it is wrong!)
- They've assured us it will never be used against nonterrorist civilians! (Oh, Hillary wouldn't use it on us?)
- (when it already IS used against citizens, by this administration) So what, they were criminals anyway. What do YOU care?
- (OR, hands on ears) lalalala I can't hear you!
- We haven't been attacked again yet, so it must be working as planned! (Really? Then I have a tiger-repelling paperclip to sell you! It works, I've never been attacked by tigers!)
- What are you, some kind of liberal troll? (Because criticizing Bush, Ashcroft, or administration officials = "liberal", of course!
- Dammit, this is a time of WAR! (A "war on terror", that was never declared, with no end in sight! Maybe it will last as long as the "war on drugs".)

Neither the ACLU nor the Electronic Frontier Foundation has said anything about Patriot II. Can you provide a link to the bill?

There was a really long thread where the goobermint shills were saying how wonderfully free we had all just become and others failed to comprehend as usual, the one issue malcontnents.
There were also a large number of the PomPom squad cheering about how safe they had become now that the government would protect them, but as usual, the reckless pro-liberty fools couldn't understand the simplest of ideas.

here here here here here It is an expansion of the term "financial institution" for use of National Security Letters for counterintelligence, foreign intelligence and Secret Service protective purposes .
But it's more fun to pretend it's whatever you want to.

You have not heard much about the PATRIOT II act because the lemmings and the sheeple have fallen into line. Keep in mind that the PATRIOT II act was signed by President Bush. That is another reason that all is sooooo quiet. If it had been signed by a democrat, the transfer rate on JimRob's bandwidth would have melted his computer.

The (UN)Patriot Act II hasn't gererated much attention form the mainstream media at all, nor from so called "conservatives". The bill was passed by congress with a voice vote (hmmmmm?) around Thanksgiving time, and the bill was
coincidentaly signed into law on a Saturday (hmmmm?), with the 13th being one of the biggest news stories of the year. Anyone of those by themselves could be easily explained away, but people need to put the pieces together . . .
this bill was purposely prepared, passed by congress, and signed by the president in such a manner as to not draw the attention of Americans to the passage of the law. It's amazing how asleep the American populace is . . .
This law allows for such actions as the opening of any and all financial recored from any "financial institutions" (now REdefined as casinos, post offices, and stockbrokers, as well as tradional money lenders) without all those messy supenas. And here's the biggest kicker . . . they can look at ANYONE'S records for any reason. Suspician of terror is no longer a prerequisit. Oh, and there's more, but you should look it up and find it yourself.
This isn't my country anymore. I just live here.
