buchanan gets my vote for sore loser of the year.
To: Theodore R.
I've lurked on this site for years. Yesterday I decided my lurking days are over and I've signed up to post.
Why? because I feel that I have to throw my two cents in with respect to the sniping against our president from ideological purists.
George W. Bush is a wartime president who is winning the war. He is doing this on behalf of the entire country -- left, right and center. The fight right now is against those who would kill hundreds of thousands if given the slightest opportunity. We can worry about the Department of Education after we win the war.

Glad to see a lurker speaking out. Welcome aboard.
Your comments are spot on. We are at war with terrorists, buchanan and his inflated ego remain at war with the President.

Teddy,
I would say the Time cover makes Pres. Bush implicitly the man of the year. He is the commander of those pictured on the cover; how do you separate one from the other?
To: hedgie
"George W. Bush is a wartime president who is winning the war. He is doing this on behalf of the entire country -- left, right and center. The fight right now is against those who would kill hundreds of thousands if given the slightest opportunity." Agreed, and welcome. I too will vote for Bush.
But I will hold my nose, because there is no conservative principle served by the largest new entitlement in 40 years. The government already taxes away over half of what I earn. That is Slavery, and Bush adds weight to my chains.

If you're a political conservative you have to be honest about the first three years of the Bush administartion.
President Bush gets an "A" for his remarkable prosecution in War on Terrorism, his handling of homeland security issues and his tax cuts, which spurred economic growth after the Clinton-Gore recession and the events of 9-11.
OTOH, the President gets an "F" for increasing government spending on programs that have nothing to do with national/homeland security issues or the WoT --- ie. voucherless education reform, wasteful farm subsidies and the creation of a $400 billion program called Medicare prescription drug benefits.

Re:
buchanan gets my vote for sore loser of the year. Buchanan took over the "Reform Party" in 2000 and drove it off a cliff.
By eliminating that protest vote in 2000, he deserves a lot of thanks.

Only the Bush tax cuts remind one of Ronald Reagan.
Ol' pattie wagon is talking about Bush deficits....... Didn't RR run up a few of those during his eight years? I seem to remember so. If not I'm sure someone will correct my inaccuracy.......
Hedgie; welcome... why not fly your state flag?

EXCELLENT POINT!

We can worry about the Department of Education after we win the war.But it was not the Conservatives who extended the Department of Education; who enacted Medicare Drug Coverage; who have refused to take such an obvious security measure, as closing our southern border.
It is not reasonable to ask those who would defend the American tradition, to sacrifice that tradition for an Administration which will not sacrifice its own expensive left of center parts of its agenda, to concentrate its own resources on that war. (And there are many, many questions about how well that war is being waged. I agree with Pat in the pride he takes on the achievements of our men in uniform. That does not mean that our present ongoing Iraqi program makes any sense.)
