It is called indoctrination.

What's the big deal? We used to fight the gay students when I was in high school, too.

Way back in the early '60s, when I was in high school, homosexuals tried to hide, but most everyone had a pretty good idea who was "queer". There was verbal harassment, to be sure, but I don't recall anyone ever being subjected to any physical violence, except in the case of a new young teacher who made the mistake of feeling up a football player. The football player decked the guy, who resigned that day and left town the next.

Ho-hum, more whining on behalf of, by their own admission, a mere 2% of the general population.
BTW, aren't we somehow missing a "barf alert" or similar on this post about this miniscule deviant minority and their oh-so-politically- correct camp-followers? (pun intended)

It's true. People pretty much left gays alone until they started getting in our faces and demanding that we accept what they do as "normal."
84 percent of gay students report being verbally harassed because of their sexual orientation, and 39 percent say they were shoved or otherwise physically abused.
Newsflash: 100 percent of the "brains" were verbally harassed because of their intellect and many were shoved or otherwise physically abused. Wouldn't be surprised if the some of the thugs were Gaystapo members.
Cry me a river, Deb.

As far as I am concerned, Homosexuals suffer from a sickness. As an American, I would die to preserve their freedom to be a 'freak'.
Notwithstanding...I still think they are sick, and that is exactley what I teach my kid. I tell him its not normal...its abnormal.
He and his friends [high school]agree. They don't harrass them...but think they are freaks of nature.
The only thing redeeming about gays is they don't breed.
Sounds harsh...but thats how I feel

Upset by anti-gay climates at their schools in Wyoming and Maryland, the heterosexual teens creatively figured out how to transform routine occasions into powerful lessons for their peers and teachers and to show gay kids they have allies. Heterosexual huh? Sure they are.

Verbal rewards to those exhibiting "preferred" behavior; verbal punishment to those exhibiting "unpreferred" behavior. While operating upside-down and backwards, the wheels of social interaction are turning as they always have--tabboos, peer pressure, praise or condemnation from "leaders," etc... As attitude changes are forcred, laws will begin to reflect the lost values (unless the judiciary beats the people to the punch, a likely scenerio).
Leftists who pretend they are not using the same social structures to pressure others for desired results are liars. The only difference is that they are using tactics that used to support morality to instead push immorality. And they are going after the most vulnerable, as leftists usually do: children. God help the children of this generation, because their parents are asleep on the job. Our government -- voided of God and morality by the left -- is mommy and daddy to all.
Count me as one who thinks shame and embarassment (plus help, direction, hope and forgiveness) over immorality beats praise and affirmation any day. If you are neutral on morality, you have no business guiding the lives of the young.

Indeed. The vast majority of straight people don't like homosexuals much and think what they do is perverse. But, the same vast majority of people also believe in not bothering people who don't bother them, and so have always been inclined to leave the "confirmed bachelors" or the "spinster lady gym teachers" alone as long as they didn't bother anyone, or make passes at anyone who was straight. If a "queer" got decked for making a pass, the general reaction was "it served him right" but that was the end of it. Almost like when a guy made a pass at a girl and she slapped his face for it. (Remember when that used to happen? How quaint that must seem to today's youth)
But, in fairness, there were bullies who liked to beat up queers, and some of them were cops. We all ignored that side of things, too, just as we ignored the whole homosexual underground. If I remember correctly, the Stonewall Riot of 1969, the first big homosexual 'thing' was a response to (shall we say) overzealous police work.
I've sometimes thought that the whole big "gay rights" brouhaha could have been avoided if the majority had been a bit less tolerant of the very few who actually did like to bash homosexuals.

* 84 percent of gay students report being verbally harassed because of their sexual orientation, and 39 percent say they were shoved or otherwise physically abused.
Welcome to high school. I'd say about 90% of straight students have been verbally harrassed and shoved at some point, or worse. I once got beat up for being the wrong color in the wrong bathroom. Fat kids and the fasion impaired had it a lot worse than the queers where I went to school.
* 83 percent said faculty never or only sporadically intervened when they heard homophobic remarks.
Same thing for the dorks and fat kids. I remember many instances where teachers turned a blind eye towards bullies who would harrass unpopular straight kids in class. I sometimes wish I could have done something to help, but I was no tough guy and was thankful to be left alone.

A new survey by the Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network provides an alarming look at what life is like for gay kids today,
Objective survey? Non-biased questions? Me thinks not!
