[history]
December 30, 2003 -- Worried that the Sept. 11 attacks could escalate, jittery Port Authority cops asked La Guardia Airport traffic controllers if any other planes were headed the city's way, newly released police communications transcripts reveal.
The first plane hit the World Trade Center at 8:46 a.m., the second at 9:03 a.m.

"They are considering it a criminal act," the police officer said.Er, no. It was a terrorist act, not a criminal act.
And as someone who was outside and in the immediate vicinity of the WTC that morning, I remember the sickening feeling when (after the towers collapsed) we heard a plane high over us and thinking that this was the second wave of attacks and that we wouldn't survive this round. As I found out later, that was our fighter planes, not more islamofascist swine.

Er, no. It was a terrorist act, not a criminal act.I think 'terrorist act' is a subset of 'criminal act,' wouldn't you agree?

I think 'terrorist act' is a subset of 'criminal act,' wouldn't you agree? No, not really. When I think of terrorism being classified as "criminal acts," I think of the Clinton (In)Justice Department indicting UBL and then putting him on trial in the criminal courthouse on Centre Street here in lower Manhattan, not shoving him in front of a wall and shooting him full of lead.
To me, it's the whole mindset that refuses to make the connection between terrorists/terrorist groups who (at least nominally) are not affiliated with any government and terror-sponsoring governments.
When I heard people talk about terrorism in the context of "criminal acts," I shudder because I'm imaginging UBL having a whole pack of lawyers to pervert and make a joke out of our legal system -- or worse, a "trial" in the ICC or World Court.

mebbe so ... she was the one who slammed the U.N. for their silence over 9/11 ... obviously, they thought the USA 'deserved it' over the Israel issue ...
since Boutros Boutros Ghali said Israel should abandon national status and absorb into the Arab world (they'd last about 3 days like that) ... and the U.N. feted and lionized Yasser Arafat and gave him applause ...

Boutros Boutros Gali? He hasn't been in there since, like, 1996... Anyway, every time I'm on the FDR Drive and near the UN, I flip it the bird and mutter something about pushing it into the East River.
Anyway, Andrea Peyser is an interesting study -- an earnest liberal who came to despise the Clintons and gradually shifts rightward, especially since 9/11. In 2000, she said that she voted for Gore and Lazio.
I'm pretty sure she's also the one who came up with the best description of the Hildebeast that I've ever seen, something about her "gaping, cavernous grin."

Well, maybe it's my law schooling, but I would think that (a) all terrorist acts are also at least crimes, but (b) not all crimes are terrorist acts.
Different contexts I guess.

I think it was back then that BBG said that about Israel and their applause for Arafat ... probably these acts occurred in the 1980's ... I just mentioned his comments as representative of the U.N. in general ...
Thank God you were not physically injured in the 9/11 attacks ...
next time you drive by the U.N., tell them I suggest they absorb into the Arab states and get out of the USA ... we'll even help them pack ...

Well, I only took one business law class when I got my M.B.A., so I'm not a legal expert. :) However, I consider terrorist attacks (at least modern ones, not the Weather Underground a-holes) to be acts of war, not criminal acts.

Actually, I'm still holding out hope that the twin towers will be rebuilt, and that they'll put the UN on the top floors of one and the NYC Board of Education on the top floors of the other (with the City Council right below). That way, if anything happens up there, we won't lose anything of any importance.

Well, maybe it's my law schooling, but I would think that (a) all terrorist acts are also at least crimes, but (b) not all crimes are terrorist acts. Then there's the subset of "act of war". Terrorism such as 911 is a criminal act of war. That would make it a "war-crime" but not so trivial as a "crime", yes?
