They were in the car, they knew it was a joyride,

You can't possibly know that from the article.

they weren't wearing seat belts. That's why they are dead.

You can't know that either. They may or may not have lived if wearing belts.

If anyone is to blame, it's the media for portraying running from the police as "cool".

How very liberal of a concept, blame everyone except the person who caused it. Maybe video games were the cause. < /sarcasm>

I doubt the driver came up with this idea on his own.

He was driving, he didn't have to run away at high speed. The blood is on his hands. But he's dead, so we have to blame someone else.

It's not the police's fault when someone runs from them.

I agree and I hope your weren't implying I said anything like that.

That's akin to blaming a new TV in the house for a break-in.

Huh? Your analogy about the media is more like that. And I never did that, BTW.

Crusader argued that the police "enticed" the kid to speed away. The kids got into the car KNOWING it was illegal (assuming they didn't borrow the car which I doubt they did). I somehow doubt they were innocent little babes who thought Grandma was magically going to appear behind the wheel at midnight.

If you want to argue that it is yet another mere coincidence that the kids ran from the cops at the same time the media saturates us with cop chases, I'll argue that if television doesn't influence behavior then why do corporations spend billions on advertising on it?
