I think if we ever went to Elmo, it would not be initiated with a press briefing scheduled two hours hence...it would probably be announced in the past tense.

Your Correct........I have a sneaky feeling though that under the new Patriot Act II that when the "Elmo" hits the fan.....Uncle Sugar will control selected media and shut down all but goobermint needs for communication. Internet, dead, local TV and radio will go to emergency broadcasting mode. Phones maybe as most of the infastructures security relies on too many to function. Cellular ?? Dunno......

As to HAM packet guys.....they are the cockroaches of communication who can't be killed no matter the amount of effort. One has to believe as you state that Condition Elmo is civilian equal to DEFCON 1 in terms of OHMYGOSH ! TEOTWAWKI !!!

That's the word around town. I'm comfortable posting that info since Steve is sure he saw an announcement of that in early explanations of the color code.
