Agreed.......& if you follow the 'illegal immigrants' threads you'll see that most of us point out that any 'amnesty' (or *whatever* the gov't is calling it) is not only a reward for the lawbreakers it ALSO allows them 'jump the line' ahead of the 'legals' who choose to come to the USA the right way.

No 'lawbreakers' any color should be rewarded for breaking US laws, including US citizens.

Already been done by Reagan ( a BIG mistake) Then even more illegals flooded in afterwards in record numbers hoping for yet another "amnesty." NO SURPRISE... About every 10 years another "grace" period, then they are "free." In the meantime more relatives come over, all the children are educated, and WE are "bad" (actually "law breakers!") if we ask about it. People from ALL countries know how the "chain" is done. We ae being destroyed by our OWN, by stupididty.

As long as reciprocity is the goal of Senor Fox and Senor Bush, the US should insist that Mexican laws should be amended to allow Americans to own property in Mexico and be entitled to all the benefits that the pachukos enjoy here. What is good for the goose should be good for the gander. Upon talking to various retirees that have visited in Mexico, the living costs down there would be attractive to the aged if the Mexican government would allow them to own their own property and provide for their health needs.

This issue is not a black and white situation. There are a lot of pro and cons. I have not come down on either side yet. There are too many cause and effect situations to ponder.
Personally,I am leaning toward increasing our immigration quotas and stopping the illegal immigration altogether. That would at least "allow" immigrants to pay into social security and be a benefit to everyone, including themselves.

It's certainly NOT a race issue as far as I am concerned (I have an immigrant daughter-in-law whom I love dearly) but it IS a race issue as far as the MEXICAN elitists are concerned, "In 1995, Mexican pundit Jorge Castañeda published an article in the Atlantic Monthly entitled “Ferocious Differences.” "This piece was quite frank in spelling out the fact that the white Mexican elite utilizes emigration as a safety valve. (Mexican Foreign Minister) Jorge Castañeda described the perception of the average American’s powerlessness against mass immigration when he wrote “Some Americans … dislike immigration, but there is little they can do about it.” The Mexican Castillians are the racists.

Again, you're ignoring the facts and the law. The Irish and the Italians were legal; they had a right to be here. The Mexicans are illegals; they have no right to be here. Thus, opposing Mexicans' presence here is not a prejudice, but a rational, morally and legally justified position.

it's not about rewarding them for breaking the law. it's a recognition that the law itself is inherently unjust. remember that until WW1 free immigration was the norm, except of course for Chinese immigrants (one of the early examples of racism in american immigration policy).

Isn't it a litlle *racist* for our gov't to allow mexicans to just walk in & take over our country & our language ????
