The Violence of Chuck E. Cheese
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel online ^ | Dec 26, 2003 | unknown

More than 40 times this year, police have been called to investigate incidents at an establishment, but it's not your ordinary problem-plagued gin mill.

It's Chuck E. Cheese, the pizza, games, and birthday party paradise adored by children. But Chuck E. Cheese has become, at least for some adults, a place where the frenzy of Skee Ball, pizza, alcohol, and manic children translates into emotional overload.

"The majority of the problems come from the adults, family members and friends who are there for the birthday parties", town police SGT Imley said. "It's not the kids".

It is when it's stolen out the back door for friends to charge OTHER friends $5 bucks to drink. Cool at the time. Now I like staying home and having one to three cold Heineken instead of 10 Miller High Lifes. LOL!

/beer criminals!

A comedian on Def Comedy Jam said Chuck E. Cheese is the place where you can get away with a felony.

I smell a 'rat.

My first inclination is that Chuck E. Cheese is getting a publicity smear job because it's behind in its campaign contributions to a politician with connections to this particular newspaper.

It should be added entertainment for the kids that the adults are punching each other out at Chuck E Cheese.

Hmmm... why is it this one and not the one in the next town.

Well, the Milwaukee Daily Worker isn't going to notice the obvious, but one patron was punched immediately after he addressed another as "Boy." This makes a certain cultural implication almost unavoidable, unless you are a modern ultra-PC newspaper hack.

Trust me, amble down the street calling men "Boy" and you will not make friends anywhere, but do it to black men and you are asking to be thumped.

Then there's this; Chuck E. Cheese has had two assaults, several verbal confrontations and five cases of suspected child abuse this year, police reports say.

"Suspected child abuse." In plain English that means some other (usually childless, of course) busybody doesn't approve of how you relate to your kids. Just last week, I watched a woman in a grocery store try to call 911 because somebody's 2-year-old was screaming blue murder. The kid's father wasn't being cruel or unreasonable, he just had a daughter throwing a tantrum, which is something you can relate to if you, or anybody you know, has had a 2 year old. But no, this barren bimbo was going to call the cops: "that baby wouldn't be crying if he wasn't hurting her." Yeah right, he probably "hurt her" by saying no to sugary cereal or something... what an old meanie.

As far as assault goes, there was a time when a guy who got socked in the eye would stand up for himself, instead of call the cops. What we have here is women who know squatto about kids (!) but can't help projecting their opinions on the subject, and men, some of whom won't defend themselves (!) and others who act like beasts around women and children(!), neither of which is manly behaviour.

For me it's hard to blame these markers of social decline on a children-oriented restaurant, no matter how bad the damn pizza is.

Ugh. My wife and I took our niece there for her birthday a few years ago. The noise, the heat, the crappiest pizza on the planet and the excitement caused one little kid to hurl at the table.

We've called it "Up-Chucky Cheese" ever since.

I've been to this particular place twice. Once a year and a half ago on a Saturday for a birthday party of my daughter's classmate. Seemed pretty much of a zoo to me. Next time was on the last day of school in May. I took my own kids for lunch and an hour of games. It was real tame because most schools were still in session. We had a great time that day.

It's all in when you go. Never on a weekend. Never for a birthday party.

Chuck E. Cheese is OK. The trouble is caused by his little brother Dick.

We had a b-day party there for my daughter several years ago on the day after Christmas (b-day is the 27th). The place was deserted and everyone had a great time. However, we went about a year ago and she got sick later that day. I don't think it was the food, since we all ate it, but to this day she is convinced that Cc makes her sick and that has cured her of the 'take me to cc'!

One of the few people on our state's death row is there because of killing 4 people at a Chuck E. Cheese several years ago.
