I used to work at a semiconductor plant that hardened
electronics so it could better withstand radiation. I
TOTALLY agree the electronics in an old bomb would be
useless JUNK after just a year or two.

Heck, if you were in electronics, you know that there is significant "drift" in component values with simple age, in a non-radioactive environment. In a real high-stress enviroment, component degradation becomes a very real -- and immediate -- problem.
