REAL QUESTION:
Can anything be done to segregate the substantive posts/replies from the fluff? (Such as having a check-box on the "post a reply" page that would color-code the background of the post... white for substantive and pale yellow for fluff?)
On important news threads, there may be 500 junk replies and only 10 substantive replies. Quite annoying to try to find the real news buried in long threads like that.
(I intended to scan this thread to see if anyone had already asked this question, but since this thread is 95% fluff, I don't have time to sift through it all.)

Can anything be done to segregate the substantive posts/replies from the fluff?Yes -- from now on I'll post my replies in RED -- the rest are fluff.
Just my little part for FR -- I hope this helps.

Problem would likely be that most everybody would see their post as "substantive"...even if it's drivel.
Maybe we'd be honest about it, I dunno.

There is wisdom in both your post and tagline.
