I'm a Floridian visiting my home town on Long Island for the holiday's (I'm there now). I was at Ground Zero two days ago, for the first time ever. And although it looks more like a construction area now, The fact that those two towers are no longer there is an awesome experience. It is a solemn place. I was able to get some closure from the visit.
I want to see something re-built there. I believe that although we have men in Iraq and Afghanistan fighting for us, we still need to send the message to those maniacs that they cannot do this to us. That we are resilient. I also think Heninger has a valid point. One tall tower with space around it would be sufficient to convey this while restoring some of the lost office space. Other smaller buildings would serve to clutter the area.

I think we should bring back Radio Row.
Serously, it was an attack on a commercial center, for that very reason. The WTC was never very pretty or inspiring, and New Yorkers didn't really take to it very much. Why not just let commerce take over and do what it does?

There should be life there. Plants, trees, flowers and a
large fountain or two. Maybe a tall monument, but no more
ridiculously tall skyscrapers. A human scale complex of
some sort with life in it.

I had never before been to the WTC, or even to NYC, but have traveled to Ground Zero twice since 9/11/01. All I felt was a great sense of emptiness, since I wasn't there until recovery operations were completed. I'm sure it is even a more profound feeling if you've spent time in the area before...
