In selecting gifts for my relatives, to my knowledge of which are all liberal to some degree (all the way from older RINO upper class types - i.e. who did not like Reagan, nor any other recent presidents besides Ford and the First Bush) to birkenstock-wearing manic-depressive postgraduates who seem to flirt with anarchy.
I am a book lover and in giving books to these people I was very careful not to give them books on political topics. Pre-1900 American history seems to have been a good way to give a quality gift that they have seemed to appreciate. What do I get in return?
From my grandparents:
"All to Human", by George Stephanopoulos
From my dad:
"The Bubble of American Supremacy" by George Soros
I am particularly annoyed by the Soros book. Stephanopoulos has a sense of humor for me and I would kind of like to see inside his mind as team Clinton was storming the White House. So I may skim the book. Soros, on the other hand, I find to be unbearable sentence by sentence. His premises are so twisted that I find myself having to tear at the bedrock and root them out and say with each step: "On that last point he is assuming X, Y, and Z which are not true". When I unwrapped it I said out loud "Great! I got a paperweight".
Has anyone else gotten any annoying books for Christmas?

When I unwrapped it I said out loud "Great! I got a paperweight". Wow! What happened after that?

All I can say is: "I'm Sorry for you."
I hate to see Americans that have converted to communism/socialisms like your parents/grandparents

It's not out yet, but a plug for my forthcoming book, next October, called "The Beacon of Liberty: A Patriot's History of the United States." This book is going to be a flagship title of a new "conservative" list from Penguin/Putnam called the "Sentinel" imprint (appropriate, no?).
I hope next year, it will be available for all to give as a Christmas gift. Meanwhile, this year, I recommend the "Dragon's Fury" series by Freeper Jeff Head.

He acted like he didn't hear me. We've all had colds with stopped up ears lately so I didn't want to press it further.

If you want to save money, I have seen the Katherine Harris's book at Dollar Tree, so you could treat dozen of your favorate liberal relatives to that book for fairly cheap.

If somebody got me a Soro's book they would get back "Treason" on the next round.

I'm such a snarling beast about this sort of thing, my family is completely cowed. They give me bookstore gift certificates.

I expect to see Hitlerys book at the 99 cent store soon and I will then buy it to put into a glass case and mount it on my outhouse wall. The attached sign will read "In case of emergency break glass".

Longitudes & Attitudes by Thomas Friedman - first column about what a hero Gore was for stepping down when the "Conservative Supreme Court" said it was more important for Fla to meet it's self-imposed deadline than to come up with a system to count every possible vote. Then he writes about the importance of the rule of law. Follow on columns a little less clueless.

Hmmm. As much as I want to help out a fellow Freeper, I am afraid this book is going to be meet a sad and nasty end before you lay eyes on it.

Don't even crack open the Soros book. Return it to your nearest Barnes & Nobles ASAP. Soros doesn't deserve the sale of the book for you, even to use it as a paperweight or fire starting material.

Congratulations, LS! Looking forward to buying it. I had heard that Penguin was going to start a new conservative list and I am glad you're on it.

I delivered a copy of the
The Clinton Legacy Cookbook to the daughter of a FReeper who put it on a list of things that he wanted for Christmas. It just so happened that we were both in Houston so what the heck I took it to her instead of sending it through the mail.
All she said was "WOW, you people on FReeRepublic are real people". She had to look the book up on a search engine to find us, but it was there.. She also said "the book was at the top of his list".... sigh. . What a great daughter, and what a wise Dad. . :)
