Nothin'.
I went out in the backyard and fired off the shotgun and then came back in and told them Santa committed suicide.
They may be on to me though. They asked if they could go out and get some choice gifts before the looters in the neighborhood got wind of it!

We just got home a little while ago from visiting with a family of two, a grandmother and grandson, who would have been without this Christmas had I not met her in the doctor's office. She is 77 and raising her 12 yo grandson alone ( mother took off after the boy's father died ). The grandmother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. I have never witnessed poverty first hand the way I did when I gave the little old lady a ride home from the doctor's office on the cold day that I met her. Folks, this is true poverty.
We played Santa for them. My 4 children forfeited two things each to enable us to provide gifts for the young boy and my husband and I did not exchange gifts but bought things for the grandmother instead. We took groceries and gifts. I have never seen such appreciation and faith in one person as I did in the grandmother, Alma, tonight. She told me that for the past two months all she had done was pray that God not forget Keith, her grandson.
The kids are now all in bed and "Santa" has laid out the gifts for them to open in the morning. I swear these presents multiplied. My kids have bikes, video games, name brand clothes and shoes, and tons of toys but the best gift they received was their realization that they are blessed. As my 7 year old son said tonight, "Mom, we are rich aren't we"? My 11 yo daughter made an emotional entry in her prayer journal detailing how tonight touched her heart. My own 12 yo son made a new friend. My 17 yo son hasn't spoken much since we left but in his reflection through the car window I noticed tears on his cheeks as we drove home.
I have always given but it has normally been through my church. This is the first year that I personally "adopted" a family. This will become a tradition from now on in my home. It is so true that it's much better to give than to receive.
My prayer is that you all have a blessed Christmas and that the spirits of peace, love and joy dwell within you throughout the coming year. After the trees and lights are taken down, after the newness of the gifts wears off, after the festivities have ended, may your hearts continue to celebrate Christmas. God bless you all.

And to think I felt bad about being here on Christmas Eve, lol. Santa came early with a new "family" computer so they're getting the old one, of course without internet connection. Both puters will be smokin' tomorrow with new games.

17 yr old girl (DVD, Leather jacket & junk), 15 yr old son (play station, movies, clothes & GUITAR (UGH)). His Daddy is such a sucker & went back & bought the guitar today without asking my opinion. I thought we had already decided our nerves couldn't take it.
