Queen`s corgi killed by Anne`s terrier

LONDON (Reuters) - The Queen is mourning the death of one of her beloved corgis after it was savaged by her daughter`s bull terrier, newspapers report.

Princess Anne`s bull terrier Dottie, which last year earned her a fine by biting two children, attacked the corgi at a royal family gathering at the Sandringham estate on Monday, said the top-selling Sun.

The Daily Mail said the corgi, Pharos, was later put down, having suffered three fractures to one of its hind legs.

Pharos was one of the Queen`s oldest and most devoted pets.

Anne was fined 500 pounds in November last year after Dottie attacked two children, aged seven and 12, in Windsor Great Park near London.

Good grief, three fractures and they kill the dog? Thats socialized medical care for you.

Sigh.

The poor thing was probably 17 years old.

Shoot the terrier.

Anne owns a bull terrier?

...what's the old line about pet owners resembling their pets?

Nah, dogs fight.

It's natural for them to work out a dominance/submission hierarchy. Sounds like the poor corgi just came out on the short end of the stick.

If I killed every dog I've ever owned that fought over dominance, I would have shot out the barrel of my .45 by now. We might like to think we can twist and subvert the nature of our pets, but they aren't machines we can program.

Oh, I dunno. It depends on the age and general health of the animal, really. Three fractures in a dog's hind leg is difficult to treat with a young and healthy animal. With an older and frail animal, it's a judgment call that the vet and the pet owner have to make together...

When they pull children into the mix by biting, time to send them to doggie lala land.

The Chuckster did it! He's been interested in dogfighting and cockfights for years. That polo business is just a cover.

He's one tricky character...

Maybe, but I think bad owners are more to blame than bad dogs. Don't get me wrong, there are a number of dangerous dogs, but bad owners put them into situations that become tragedies. If your dog isn't safe then don't have him around kids.

If you do, you should be held liable upto and including murder if the pet kills someone. Dogs aren't capable of reason beyond a basic level, thats up to the idiot holding the leash.

Corgis are a very gentle breed...excellent with children. The terrier is the culprit here.

I love corgis, had one as a child. However I don't think the terrier is the problem (or at least the whole problem), I think HRH Anne is the one at fault for having an aggressive dog in a location where it could cause mischief.

That said, I know many "blame the breed" people seem to populate FR and I think attention should at least be given to the negligence of the owner before putting a round into Scruffy's cranium. Stupid people should neither have children or pets, they will screw them both up in the end

Oh, I guess if they can send the critter out to a farm where it can have a chance at a new life that might be OK. But to continue to trust the combination of that particular "companion human" with that particular "companion animal" is sheer and utter madness.

It's good thing that Chelsea Clinton only had a cat, Socks Clinton. Had she had a dog it would have been insufferable.
