Saddam's capture still paying off with arrests

Saddam Hussein's capture 11 days ago is still paying dividends, the nation's highest-ranking military officer said yesterday, with informants readily offering the names of Iraqis leading the insurgency.

"It's enabled us to pick up lots of former regime elements," said Gen. Richard B. Myers, Joint Chiefs chairman, who appeared with Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld at a Pentagon press conference. "Just yesterday, we picked up 50. Twenty-nine were actually targeted, [were] individuals we wanted. We went after them. Got them. That's just one day. So we've been pretty successful at that."

Visitors have described Saddam as defiant and uncooperative as CIA and military officers interrogate him in a holding cell at an undisclosed location in greater Baghdad.

A hint-- stand Saddam on a flimsy pallet placed over a cage of hungry hogs. Put a rope around his neck and hoist him just high enough that his tip-toes are touching the pallet. When the ankle muscles start to give out, he will become more cooperative.

In the town of Baqouba, 30 miles northwest of Baghdad, U.S. soldiers detained an Iraqi ex-colonel suspected of recruiting for the pro-Saddam guerrillas.

Awesome!

The question being asked inside the Pentagon now is: Has Saddam's capture, and stepped-up raids, resulted in a less-potent insurgency that is running out of steam?

They're asking themselves if the war is over.

I bet a lot of his defiance is a show for the visitors. When he's alone with his new pals --- the interrogators, the ones who give him cigarettes when he says interesting things --- I bet he opens up a lot.

Even if Saddam was singing like a bird, they would still say he's being "defiant and uncooperative."

They want his henchman to feel a false sense of security.

They captured 50 of his people, yet he's not telling them a thing...hmmmm.

Pretty soon, the only ones left fighting for an American defeat in Iraq will be the Liberal media and the Democrats.

No. It's only the beginning of the end.

The war will not be over until every last Baathist thug is either dead or captured.

Oh, hell....give him a Cuban cigar...It'll make him wonder. I believe they found some during one of their early searches.

Saddam trusts NO ONE. Give him a palatial bed....for one day. Give him good food for several days...then offer him something we KNOW he hates.

Keep filling his head with frivilous thoughts.

But when captured, the ex-Ba'athist Party dictator carried a briefcase filled with names of insurgents.

Ms. Albright, does this mean that the military planted the briefcase when Saddam was dropped off?

In Nam, it was effective to take a prisoner up in a chopper and threaten to toss him out. After talking, they'd throw him out, anyway.
