Here's where the fun starts: Today's terrorists don't have the capability of putting a nuke together themselves with 37 pounds of material. But there are people out there that can.

Yes, and all of the ones who hold the canonical "keys to the kingdom" in that science are comfortably on the U.S. payroll with frequent handling. This is in keeping with the old saying that idle hands are the devil's playground. We made it our business to see that their hands aren't idle.

Now for the 12 kiloton question...how many former Soviet, ethically challenged bomb designers are there who might be tired of making $50 a week working in a vodka factory?

Find me one. Just one.

Is it true that UPS stuff to government buildings isn't checked? Just stuff from the post office? I mean how hard would it be for a terrorist to figure this one out? We need a total seamless security system. And now.

Nutcake North Korean Bad Hairboy is likely hitting the "TRACK IT" button on www.ups.com over and over and keeps asking "Is it going to get here before Xmas? Only one more day..."

I'd like to do my part for world peace by seizing about 1/4 OZ of highly enriched Colombian.

I like Columbian Supremo with a little milk and sugar.

Oh, I've done far more than just blab about the deuterium, my friend. If you were watching CNN back when Pakistan first revealed they had the atomic bomb, you probably saw some photos of my old handiwork interspersed throughout their news report.

"Real HEU would make a nasty dirty bomb."

FYI, "Little Boy" was designed to use 110 lbs. of uranium. "Fat Man" was designed to use 22 lbs of plutonium. If a drug dealer can smuggle 10 tons of cocaine into our country on any given day, well, sleep tight.

Indeed, the WTC destruction only succeeded because the twin towers' tube design left all the load-bearing on the fatally-compromised outer shell.

Nit-Pick Alert!:

IIRC, the critical failure was the fire proofing that was blown off of the structural componants is what allowed the fire (from the jet fuel and other flamable materials in the buildings) to weaken them enough to cause the pancaking action to happen. I may be in error on that. In the end, all the fire proofing may have been able to do was delay what happened. But you do have a point about the unconventional design of the towers.

Was it a decade or two ago that a high school boy designed a very viable nuke from public documents. I think the FBI came and confiscated his paper, notes etc.

I suspect that having 10's of millions to hire the best out of work Russians, Bulgarians, etc.

might make it easier.

Obtain some of those radiation pills.

Or drink a bit of Lagavulin 16-year. You can taste the iodine in that fine Islay single-malt scotch.

I'm sure they'll use fertilizer, amonia, anything else they can get their hands on.

HOWEVER, I do NOT believe that they would forego the more dramatic and much more devastating fissionable nuke if they can pull it off.

They are for MAXIMUM DEVASTATION, DESTRUCTION OF OUR LAND AND WAY OF LIFE AT ALL COSTS AND BY ANY MEANS. THAT IS THEIR MENTALITY ABOVE AND BEYOND VIRTUALLY ALL ELSE. THEY SEE US TRULY AS THOUGH WE WERE SATAN, TO THEM.

Please avoid losing sight of that fact.

Not technically in error, since that was the initial report. Later reports indicated that the fire-proofing was inadequate for the jet-fuel conflagration. Even if it hadn't been blown off, the metal still would have fatigued and the structure still would have fallen. I think the last report I read on the matter indicated that adequate fireproofing still wouldn't have saved the doomed structure; it would only have bought it maybe another hour before collapse.

Still makes me sad to think about it all to this day. What a horrific day that was... I wish they'd just build back the Twin Towers the way they were on September 10th, only one story higher (just to p~ss off the terrorists).

Shooting from the hip I'd say 37 lbs of uranium is smaller than a bowling ball.
