Thanks for the update.
What a bunch of dumb-a$$es. It they were confused, they should have asked the Judge for clarification.
Like I said earlier, they just wanted to get home for Christmas supper.

It they were confused, they should have asked the Judge for clarification. That was my first thought when I heard this.

I was involved in a civil misdemeanor case last year - judge only, no jury - and the defense attorney purposely got the thing scheduled just before quitting time.
He knew the habits of the judge, and knew the judge wouldn't miss his supper in order to hear the entire case.
A hearing in chambers was hastilly called at 4:30PM, and when the judge came back, a "not guilty" verdict was rendered without hearing any witnesses at all.

I am proud of the fact that Virginia has maitained its conservative status, even as the state of my birth to the south (NC) is starting to slide back to the Democrats after going solidly Republican during the Reagan years.
The cities of Hampton Roads (I can't stand that moniker) are usually lumped together in discussions. Other than the presence of the military, they have little in common with each other except geography. Malvo would have likely gotten a free ride in Portsmouth (solidly Democratic) and Norfolk (mostly Democratic), but he would have fried in Virginia Beach (where most of the military living off-base and Christian conservatives reside). I don't know what happened in Chesapeake.
