[history]
Bob Dornan thinks he's found Rep. Dana Rohrabacher's Achilles' heel, the issue that will be the Huntington Beach incumbent's downfall when the March Republican primary rolls around.
Drugs.
In his challenge to Rohrabacher, Dornan has quickly made the subject an issue, focusing on his opponent's drug use as a young man and his support for legalizing medicinal marijuana.

I guess Dornan feels he has some divine right to a congressional seat.Don't they all?

Orange County still considers itself conservative, but what Orange County favors is the conservatism of busybodies. OC has land-use regulations that rival Scandinavia. There's a committee that tells you what color you can paint your front door or exactly how long you can let a beach towel dry on your balcony before it becomes a felony. You are right about some of the master planned communities in south Orange County and developments where neighborhood associations govern like dictators, but the vast majority of suburban Orange County is not subject to such rigid land use regulations.

"He's an advocate for reefer," said Wachter, a Dornan campaign volunteer."
Oh, so that's who still talks like that! Dornan campaign volunteers.
Someone might want to let this good woman know that we have successfully managed to leave 1953 behind.

Ye gods, 42 posts (and counting) and nobody's called anybody who's critical of Dornan a TRAITOR yet! That's because the WOD crew is confused over who to support --Dornan the Dope or Dana the Doper...
The irony of this particular political battle is so thick it could be cut with a knife.

"Anybody who wants to legalize marijuana or any other illegal substance is the enemy of this country," Any politician who is against the legalization of marijuanna is best friends with the Drug Cartels and probably has the Cartel's money in his pocket.

That would only be so when you willingly purchase a property in such a development, SAME as Arizona, padner.

"I'd vote for Rohrabacher just on the fact that he is not a hypocrite on drug issues."
Dornan can't surf. Hence, no votes in Surf City.
To: Ol' Dan Tucker
If he wants to campaign on that point, it's his business. I'd rather be spending taxpayer dollars to find traitors such those who deliver military technology to rival nations (such as bomb designs to the Soviets and missile designs to the Chinese) and terrorists of the bomb-throwing type. The so-called 'war on terror' is not cheap and resources are not unlimited. I would ask Dornan just how much money and manpower do we need to lock up more Tommy Chongs and how are we going to pay for it? I'd rather spend the money on more bombers.

Dornan is my kind of guy on abortion:
Pro-abortionists want to kill a baby on it's birthdayCall him insane or ... but I admire that kind of insanity
To: Ol' Dan Tucker
If I recall, Dornan's wife had an alcolhol or substance abuse problem that surfaced when a rumor about domestic violence between the two was reported.

Regarding the famous:
"A puritan is a person who has an overwhelming suspicion that somewhere, someone is having fun." --H.L. Mencken
Cromwell then increased his error by moral rationalizations of what was, essentially, autocratic fear: ". . .there is a great deal of grudging in the nation," he said in a speech, "that we cannot have our horse races, cockfightings and the like." He was not against these pleasures in principle, he added. "I do not think these unlawful." (He indulged in them himself.) He argued that they had too great a hold on people, who "should be content to make them recreations." This muddled argument provided a rationale that anti-Calvinists (then and now) seized upon. They used the Protector's own words to argue that Calvinism is against pleasure, against sports, against even joy. "The Puritans hated bear-baiting, not because it gave pain to the bear but because it gave pleasure to the spectators," said Macaulay. The great historian was usually accurate, but forgot that it was not Puritans ,but bemedalled Major Generals who stopped bear-baiting, not because it gave pain to the bear-but collected spectators who frightened the Protectorate.4
4. Whatever the Puritan's reasons for being against bear-baiting, the fact remains that Puritans never governed England.
Scot, Otto. The Great Christian Revolution, The Reformer Library, 1994,pp253-4
To: Ol' Dan Tucker
I forgot to mention that Dornan is Catholic, decidedly not Puritan. I doubt if one can make the charge stick that Catholics are against fun.
Your point was?
Aren't you only referring to medical use - but of course not as I doubt you refer to medical use as fun
