Ironic timing considering there's an earthquake going on in California I remember a couple of years ago there was a report of a rather large earthquake in Turkey during the evening news cast on TV; at that very moment we had a small shaker of about 3.2 during the report; great special effects.

I liked it very much. I liked the lighting of the beacons too! And I thought Andy Serkis as Gollum was amazing. Billy Boyd wins high marks from me... and I liked the Riders of Rohan. (I like Calvary)
I liked the cascading endings... but, if Jackson had ended it with all of Gondor bowing to the Hobbits (that got me), I would have been happy. The fact that Jackson didn't was just icing on a delicious cake.
The only thing I really found disagreeable was when the tower collapsed. It reminded me too much of the WTC collapsing... I don't think it did that to anyone else, but it was like a knife in my heart.
I can't wait to see the extended version of this one.

Great. I move up here from Southern California and what happens? They discover another stupid fault.

That's gonna reduce Bill Gates' property values.
I've known about this for a while; many people have told me I'd be happier living there--and I always say I'll wait until AFTER the big quake and simultaneous eruption of Mt. Ranier...

One of those faults passes literally under the building where I work.

Inside the next 2 days, the Earth could be hit by an undetected asteroid larger than Jupiter. In order to be more precise, I'm going to need a really big grant -- and you better get it to me quick!
In that case move to Seattle since the odds are in your favor

Luckily I am nowhere near where the quake happened. Merry Christmas to you as well. And thanks for thinking of me.

Thought this might make you feel better about all those NY terrorist stories that keep cropping up. :-)

Don't worry, it's not scheduled for at least a century.
You (and I) won't be around and your children will be living in Ireland by then :^)

I can only imagine what 9.0 would be like. For The Landers Quake in '92, it was 7.6---I was in Newport Beach and it SHOOK! The Northridge quake of '94 was what 6.7 or something, I was in Pasadena and that was pretty shaky ,but I was alot closer to the epicenter too. There's a demonstrably huge difference of energy right there. 9.0! That is simply unfathomable and if that does eventually happen in busy Seattle, well, it will be listed as the worst natural catastrophe in American history,Period. I can't even ponder 3 minutes of shaking, wheeeeeew!
