Gore’s son arrested for marijuana possession

The son of former vice president and 2000 Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore has been charged with marijuana possession.

Albert A. Gore III, 21, was arrested Friday night after he was stopped for driving a vehicle without its headlights on. Two passengers were also arrested and charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession. They were identified as Yann V. Kumin, 21, and Marc G. Hordon, 22, both of Cambridge, Mass.

A Montgomery County, Md., police officer stopped the car, a dark-colored Cadillac, in Bethesda, a Washington suburb, around 11:30 p.m. Friday.

The officer noticed the car’s windows and sunroof were open, despite cold temperatures Friday night. There was also a smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to a news release from the police department.

A search of the vehicle turned up a partial marijuana cigarette, a cigarette box containing suspected marijuana, and a soft drink can that also smelled of marijuana.

All three were released pending trial.

In September 2002, the younger Gore was ticketed for driving under the influence. He was pulled over and ticketed by military police just outside Fort Myer in suburban Virginia, but was not taken into custody.

In the summer of 2000, Gore was cited by the North Carolina Highway Patrol for driving 97 mph in a 55-mph zone. Under an agreement with prosecutors, a reckless driving charge was dropped in the North Carolina case, but he was fined $125 for speeding and his driving privileges in the state were suspended.

I predict he (Gore III) will enter the campaign for the Dem's prez nomination in 2020.

His campaign slogan will be "I smoked pot when it was illegal".

I dont feel any safer knowing the police are out there protecting us from marijuanna smokers instead of from violent criminals.

Remember how his arrest for doing like 95 MPH AND leading police on a high speed chase at a crucial point in the 2000 election cycle was stamped out and swept under the rug, so as not to embarrass Al?

MY how officially being recognized as minor footnote changes things...

I'm sure this will get as much news coverage as Jenna Bush's underage drinking.

Dean and Gore....Two Daddys of a kind!

Friday :: June 20, 2003

Howard Dean's Son Arrested for Burglary: Not a Crisis We know we said we'd be gone till Monday, but as soon as we got here to the Canadian Rockies, we saw on the news that former Governor Howard Dean's son had been arrested for burglary--trying to steal liquor along with three of his friends from a country club. Gov. Dean has issued this statement at his weblog.

We think this won't have any effect on Dean's campaign. The same thing happened to Colorado's Governor Owens before his re-election--his teenage son was arrested for burglary-- and it was a non issue--no one brought it up.

Everyone who has a teenager knows they get in trouble for dumb things. We've represented a bunch of them--mostly kids of our friends or kids of our friends' friends--they are not bad kids. They are young and use bad judgment from time to time. They don't fully appreciate consequences until they get caught. But they learn from these experiences and grow into productive adults.

We wish Governor Dean and his family well, and we hope he's not too hard on the kid. That would send the wrong message entirely. OK,

now we're off duty again. A great weekend to all. Posted Friday :: June 20, 2003 | TrackBack

"violent criminals"

If I was hit by a car going 97 miles, an hour, it would be a criminal act, and rather violent.

I dont feel any safer knowing the police are out there protecting us from marijuanna smokers instead of from violent criminals.

Hmm, did the police not respond to a rape call, bank robbery, assault call while they were arresting Gore III? Did I miss something?

Are the police supposed to ignore anything but a violent crime?

I dont feel any safer

The police are not there to protect you...it is YOUR duty to protect yourself until they can arrive.

Actually, he was probably going to use it to help him experience the deep truths as he reads dad's _Earth in the Balance_.
