Joe Namath Drunk Interview On ESPN's Patriots-Jets Game Saturday Night?

Did anyone see Joe Namath's sideline interview with the female reporter-babe during the second quarter of the Pats-Jets game?

She was asking him about Chad Pennington, and he talked to her like Chad was going to lead them to a championship...of course, the Jets aren't going anywhere now...and his speech was very deliberate and slow.

"He's either drunk or he has some kind of disease", I said to my mate.

The very next question, the woman (I didn't catch her name) asked him about how great it was being a QB as a Jet...and Namath started smiling and leaning around her...she kept her distance as best she could as she held the mic up to Joe.

"I wanna kiss you!" Namath blurted...before he got some more composure, spoke about the team looking forward to next year...then ended with the same line "I really wanna kiss you!" or something like that.

The girl said, "Thank you Joe, I'll take that as a compliment."

The announcers were silent for a second, then one of them said, "Joe is a fun guy..."

Kind of reminded me of the story of Howard Cosell getting sauced in the booth during a Monday Night Football game.

I come from North Texas and high school football
is second to religion and mineral rights. Names
are made or lost for decades depending on a game
or style of play. It is that serious .

At my senior year football banquet,our line coach
went to N. Tx. State as did Don Maynard. In fact Coach
Reuch and Maynard were roomies. Luck had it that Don
Maynard was our banquet's speaker.

Don started by proudly mentioning the fellowship of
Christian Athletes he helped found and talked about
never drinking or smoking for fear he would not "make
the big show". Then in a devilish boys grin he told a Joe Namath story of being in the huddle with two games left in the season. The Jets had to win one to make the playoffs.
It was third and three when Namath asked the left guard if a trap could get the 1st down. The guard looked dazed and didn't answer. As Joe started to repeat the question the guard said " huh, no , yes ,right on TWO" Joe knew he was dazed from a shot to the head. Joe asked the left end if holding the line backer would a sweep get the 1st ?. The end complained he was being held every play . Well Joe turns looks to Emerson Boozer and asks "what ya wanna do , go up the middle or 'round the end ?
Boozer said " man if they ain't gonna block no better than that, don't give me the ball".

to which Don Maynard said Joe didn't miss a beat and said
"ok...let's throw the interception and get outta here"

Clearly, you know little about the game at that time. Tell me why he was the first player drafted. Why was he offered the largest contract in history at that time? I am certain you knew more then too.

Okay, maybe he only won one Super Bowl? Maybe only one national championship? He was still All-American and All-Pro.

It's like say Ted Williams wasn't that good or Babe wouldn't be as good in today's game. Truth is, Joe was the best there was in his day. Most people would agree.

I don't know if any of you were watching last nights Lakers and Nuggets game. They interviewed Nicole Richie (yes the daughter of Lionel and on that show with Paris Hilton. Well the guy interviewing her during the break in the action asks her who her favorite Laker player is. She blurts out Kobe Bryant. He then asked her why he was her favorite player and she says "Because I want him to have sex with me" They cut the interview right there and Stu Lentz said "I have no comment on that one. Lets get back to the game"

I hate the Lakers BTW.

Falstaff was a major brand then and remember when Pabst blue ribbon sponsored the Friday night fights??? It was a major brand then too..at least down south...now I would be really hard pressed to find either brand in any store around here.

Namath didnt play that many years - he never withstodd the test of time to say he is great - like a Montana or Elway or an Otto Graham.

His career is defined by one game and panty hose commercials.
