Moose's Police Chief Hopes Over in Minneapolis Updated: Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003 - 3:59 PM
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak has named Dayton, Ohio's police chief as his choice to lead the police department in Minnesota's biggest city. Rybak's choice of William McManus had been expected.
McManus was one of two finalists. The other was former Montgomery County, Md. police chief Charles Moose - the public face of law enforcement during the hunt for the Washington-area snipers.
But the mayor's choice may face a tough fight in the City Council. Several council members have criticized Rybak for failing to promote either of the two female deputy chiefs who didn't make the cut.
Current Minneapolis Police Chief Robert Olson leaves office next month.

Well I guess it's safe for white guys to take their white vans outta the garage now.

Why isn't Moose sharing his expertise with Ohio law enforcement who need it?

How is it possible for a man such as Moose to be a finalist for that job in any city. Other than being a minority, he is qualified for nothing.

Thank God. He would have turned MSP into Detroit. Gang bangers do need to be run out of town from time to time. Plus, Moose didn't solve the sniper case-a truck driver did.
People died because the sketch was released so late.

People died because the sketch was released so late.
And the license plate number (partial, at least)
And the description (dark, maybe maroon color, car)
And similar details.
Moose's handling of the case bordered on incompetence, which might be the reason is searching for a new job.

I can't believe that Ryback chose a white male for the position.
So many other opportunities to be PC.

In the kingdom of the blind, a one-eyed man is king. Believe me, Moose would have been right at home in what the gangs here call Money-apolis.

I was totally convinced the next chief would be a minority applicant for that same reason. Not based on any qualifications, just skin color, as an appeasement to the "squeaky wheel" voices in this town.
The frosting on the cake would have been the "circus" atmosphere created by the endorsement of Moose, a totally incompetent candidate, at best.
Score one (small one) for Rybak.

Thank God. Moose would have turned Mpls into Gangland central, and undoubtedly would spill over into the bordering suburbs (like mine).
