I think you have your Mary's confused. Mary, Queen of Scots was not 'Bloody Mary'. 'Bloody Mary' was Mary Tudor, the eldest daughter of Henry VIII, half sister to Elizabeth I. Mary, Queen of Scots was a catholic, but held at house arrest by Elizabeth until her beheading due to her betrayal and working in the background to claim the English throne. I believe Mary/Scots and Elizabeth were cousins of sorts.

Mary Queen of Scots was the daughter of King James V of Scotland, who was the son of James IV and Margaret Tudor, a sister of Henry VIII. That means James V and Elizabeth were first cousins, so Elizabeth and Mary would be first cousins once removed.
Mary Queen of Scots' son James VI, later Elizabeth's successor as James I of England, was descended from Margaret Tudor on two lines, since his father Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley, was also a grandson of Margaret Tudor (his mother was the half-sister of James V).

IIRC, I believe that Elizabeth, being the
illigitimate child of King Henry VIII, was not the rightful heir to the throne of England. Mary, Queen of Scotts, a cousin of sorts to Elizabeth, as you say, was the rightful heir to the throne of England. Elizabeth, knowing this, imprisoned Mary/Scots and had her beheaded years later.
I also recall, that Mary/Scots wasn't interested in the throne of England but Calvin, I believe, was terrified that she would convert the country "back" to the Catholic faith. He conspired to get Mary to go to England to see Elizabeth and Elizabeth arrested her.
Anyone else remember their history differently?

Henry VII (Elizabeth's dad) had two sisters, Mary and Margaret. Margaret married the Scottish king and had a son, James, who fathered Mary Queen o' Scots. That would make her Elizabeth's niece, or second cousin, or something. They always called one another "Cousin," which was a usual form of address between non-siblings back then.
