Calling it "premarital sex" is such a euphemism--as if they are all engaged couples just jumping the gun a little.

Besides, miracles would certainly be rejected as unconstitutional by People for the American Way. . .

Spiritual descendants of the Pharisees who, against the evidence of their own eyes, disbelieved Jesus' healing of the man born blind (John 9).

I read the whole thing but I don't see where he is going with it. Is he decrying the loosening sexual mores or is he saying that the church is out of step and in danger of being irrelevant, even to the church-goer?

To a great extent, the "Culture War" has already been fought and the moralists have lost. Homosexuality now appears to be constitutionally protected. Planned Parenthood invades our schools with condomphilia and any suggestion that people should hold off sex until marriage is scoffed at as "unrealistic". And these views are not exclusive to the unchurched.

I think Mr. Buckley needs to clear his throat and try again. Whatever point he is really trying to make got lost with some irrelevant data.

I think he is confused. Christianity isn't about going to church or the fitness of its ministers and priests. It's about the person of Jesus Christ and an individual's divine relationship with Him.

That it would take a miracle for Christians to stay Christian when they leave church and step back into the Playboy world?

Yes, let's clarify the language:

They're not the 'unborn,' they're the preborn!

It's not 'premarital' sex, it's non-marital sex!

And also, 'gay marriage' is an oxymoron!

No, it's not -- it's a ceremony with lots of joy and happiness. It's time to stop using a perfectly good word like 'gay' for 'queer'.

Queer marriage is an oxymoron!

"Today's liberal philosophy (as expressed by the Democrats) is one of hedonism "

Not to defend "liberal" philosophy, which I despise, but I don't consider it to be supportive of hedonism. For instance, the entire raison d'etre of Playboy, ogling naked females, is politically incorrect in the extreme.

After all, modern "liberal" philosophy encourages us to work together, unselfishly, in the service of the state, for the benefit of all, and under strict regulation of every aspect of our lives, at that.

However, I do think that the Left encourages hedonistic behavior in hopes that it may destroy American values (not because they themselves believe in it), so that they can then impose their own totalitarian values.

Supporting homosexual causes (marriage) is just plain business stupid for playboy enterprises. Encouraging homosexual recruiting diminishes their potential customer base.

(Christie Hefner) was asked what mostly was she proud about in Playboy, and she answered that her magazine had done a great deal to foster liberal ideas...I have written extensively for it.

As a professed Catholic who frequently contributes to the sales of pornography, Mr. Buckley helped create the problem that he now so weakly laments. He is both a shameful hypocrite and an embarrassment to true conservative ideals. Furthermore, he knows that the religious affiliations in the tired statistics he throws about were self-reported and are biased in favor of the "cultural christians" who go out of their way to participate in these stupid surveys and skew the results toward their hedonistic behavior. Mr. Buckley knows better than this, but instead uses them in a fraudulent defense of his own scandalous behavior. Mr. Buckley's impending demise will be of no loss to the conservative movement.
