Libya 'to give up WMD'
BBC ^ | 19/12/2003 | BBC

Libya's leader Colonel Gaddafi has said his country sought to develop weapons of mass destruction capabilities but will dismantle this programme completely, Prime Minister Tony Blair has announced. "This decision is an historic one and a courageous one and I applaud it," Mr Blair said.

Colonel Gaddafi had told him the process of dismantling the programme would be "transparent and verifiable", the prime minister said in a statement from Durham Cathedral.

The range of all Libya's missiles would be restricted to "no more then 300km, he added.

Mr Blair said Britain had been engaged in talks with Libya for nine months.

"Libya came to us in March following successful negotiations on Lockerbie to see if it could resolve its weapons of mass destruction issue in a similarly cooperative manner," he said.

Spoke to a liberal friend of mine today, who is relatively politically ignorant overall..but she has really gotten to like President Bush and said she has to admit when he talks he says what he means, and said they might have to change the laws so he could stay in office indefinitely. QUITE A TURNAROUND from this person from a couple of years ago. She is representative of many!

My son called me from his car phone...heard it on the radio. He was laughing and said, "What are the Rats, especially Dean, going to say now?"

Excellent news. The Stealth President strikes again!!

This is such great news. God bless our military and President Bush. I really think world peace is possible as long we remain strong and united as a country.

The two tend to be more effective used together than separately, a concept the Clinton Administration never quite understood.

The Clinton Administration was complicit in extending, by several years, the Serb-Bosnian-Croation war. Every time the Serbs would agree to a cease-fire and the Bosnians were considering the terms, Clinton would jump on TV and issue threats to Serb that they'd better agree to the cease-fire or else. The Bosnians then thought the U.S. would stand up for them getting better terms and would turn down the agreement on the table. This happened several times - just so Clinton could claim he was important.

If there is any one image that is THE TV image of the decade (of course, who knows what is next), this has GOT to be it:

It is spreading around the world and creating the 'tipping point'.

Needless to say, the Arab Street will wake up tomorrow a.m. in the Middle East to read their Arabic newspapers and see another domino falling. I can guess what they will think. And I love it.

The funny thing about this is that IT DIDN'T TAKE ONE UN RESOLUTION TO ACCOMPLISH THIS! ALL IT TOOK WAS US RESOLVE.

Ronald Reagan deserves a big big high-five for hitting Gaddafi

Exactly--the two faces of Khadaffi then, and now:

Al-Zwaheiri was just quoted on TV as spouting that "the Americans have been run out of Afghanistan and that AQ is chasing Americans everywhere in the US" (paraphrase). LOL!

I think he's vying for Baghdad Bob's old job!
