IMPEACHMENT IS FOREVER - HAPPY CLINTON IMPEACHMENT DAY!
self | Friday, December 19, 2003 | Kristinn

Congratulations! It was five years ago today the House of Representatives impeached President William Jefferson Clinton for perjury and obstruction of justice.

Those brave representatives survived an all-out war of political brinksmanship which included public threats of retaliation and private threats to bring down the government if Clinton was impeached.

James Carville threatened Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr with "kneecapping;" Alec Baldwin called for the murder of House Judiciary Committee Chairman Henry Hyde; George Stephanopoulos passed along the threat to employ the "Ellen Romesch defense"--a public blackmailing of Congress; Hillary Clinton said on the Today Show that those plotting against her husband "would have alot to answer for" when this was done; Paula Jones was called "trailer trash" and worse for simply seeking justice and an apology; Linda Tripp had her reputation destroyed by a conspiracy of Clinton administration officials and media operatives. Even Monica Lewinsky feared for her life and kept the infamous blue dress stained with presidue for insurance.

Thank God that people like Linda Tripp stood tall and refused to back down in their determination to see that a president of the United States could not commit felonies in office with impunity.

And thank God for people like Jim Robinson, Bob Barr, Gary Aldrich, Alan Keyes, Larry Klayman, Lucianne Goldberg, Billy Dale and all the rest who spoke at, organized and attended Free Republic's nationally televised rally supporting Clinton's impeachment on October 31, 1998.

You done good! Impeachment is forever. You can be proud that in America's hour of need, you answered the call to preserve protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

You, my friend, are a MAN. If I had lived on the east coast during that time, I surely would've made that occur. That is too large for me to comment on right now as it's 10:55 PST, and we're going to listen to Jazz down the street. If you ever come to L.A., you must FreepMail me, as L.A. is a FINE TOWN regardless of what others say. I've seen your E.C. Freeps out there since I joined F.R. and ALL were well done!

HUGE BUMP!!!

I also lost one of my best friends five years ago today. December 19 is always a bittersweet memory for me.

I love you Jeannie.

So, if not for Bill Clinton, I'd probably still be a blissfully ignorant schumuck. Thanks to the Perp-in-Chief, I am now a thoroughly educated schmuck. Thanks, Bill! (You rotten, impeached, hillbilly excuse for a President.)

Very true! Larry Nichols also did his part to alert the nation. His video, The Clinton Chronicles, really opened up the Clinton Pandora Box and helped get people to see Bill and Hillary as the "Original Evil-Doers."

Also radio hosts, like George Putnam hosted many journalists and Eyewitnesses to the Clinton-Crimes on his show.

It's amazing how everyone came together!

But it ain't over yet.

Yes, that's true .. but now the democrats have to live with the fact that had they forced Clinton to resign and allowed Gore to take the WH, they just might have won the election in 2000.

Thank God their GREED and LUST FOR POWER would not allow them to do the right thing.

I saved the front page of the local paper. "CLINTON IMPEACHED!" Was just looking at it yesterday. Funny thing, though. Forever after Nixon resigned, anytime the press mentioned him it was "Former President Nixon, who was forced to resign . . ." You never hear about Clinton being impeached from the press.

Very good observation.

History revised before our eyes.

I hadn't heard about the Senate clerk. Got any details, when, where, whom? Hit & run still unsolved? What was his/her connection with any key Senators?

At the time, the death of the Senate Clerk seemed like an act of intimidation aimed at anyone thinking of voting to impeach Clinton, especially those Democrat Senators who might have been tempted to vote conscience to impeach Clinton.

Thank you, kristinn, for bringing back my fondest memory of those 8 horrible years. Like JFK's assassination, the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger, and the dastardly attack on the World Trade Center, I can rmemeber exactly what I was doing at that momentous time. Sitting in my car with my wife in the parking lot of the outlets in Clinton, Connecticut, we postponed our Christmas shopping while we listened to every "Aye" and "Nay" of those four votes. I've never been so proud (House Republicans) and so ashamed (House Democrats) of our country at the same time.
