IMPEACHMENT IS FOREVER - HAPPY CLINTON IMPEACHMENT DAY!
self | Friday, December 19, 2003 | Kristinn

Posted on 12/19/2003 5:09:03 AM PST by kristinn

Congratulations! It was five years ago today the House of Representatives impeached President William Jefferson Clinton for perjury and obstruction of justice.

Those brave representatives survived an all-out war of political brinksmanship which included public threats of retaliation and private threats to bring down the government if Clinton was impeached.

James Carville threatened Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr with "kneecapping;" Alec Baldwin called for the murder of House Judiciary Committee Chairman Henry Hyde; George Stephanopoulos passed along the threat to employ the "Ellen Romesch defense"--a public blackmailing of Congress; Hillary Clinton said on the Today Show that those plotting against her husband "would have alot to answer for" when this was done; Paula Jones was called "trailer trash" and worse for simply seeking justice and an apology; Linda Tripp had her reputation destroyed by a conspiracy of Clinton administration officials and media operatives. Even Monica Lewinsky feared for her life and kept the infamous blue dress stained with presidue for insurance.

Thank God that people like Linda Tripp stood tall and refused to back down in their determination to see that a president of the United States could not commit felonies in office with impunity.

And thank God for people like Jim Robinson, Bob Barr, Gary Aldrich, Alan Keyes, Larry Klayman, Lucianne Goldberg, Billy Dale and all the rest who spoke at, organized and attended Free Republic's nationally televised rally supporting Clinton's impeachment on October 31, 1998.

You done good! Impeachment is forever. You can be proud that in America's hour of need, you answered the call to preserve protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

The republicans pursued justice no matter the cost.........if you conclude they didn't want to remove the president that is your interpretation.

The republicans did what they had to do......they could have thrown up their hands and said that they knew they would lose so why bother.

The Judicial Committee under Henry Hyde ought to get the highest accolades, not be labelled dirty..etc.

If you are talking about the senate, you should see a doctor immediately.

The house is debatable, at least, though I would never agree with you.
No way the Monica story should ever have been allowed into the game. Accusing the extortionist, treasonous president of something half to three quarters of the congress was guilty of was at the best, stupid.

Most excellent, and well written, rant..OTOH, let's give the Devil his due:

Clinton was primarily responsible for the 1994 GOP take-over of Congress...much of the good things that conservatives have enjoyed stem from that one event...

Thank you for reminding us Kristinn. I'll never forget watching the vote totals. And I haven't forgotten the Senate's dereliction of duty.

Word History: Nothing hobbles a President so much as impeachment, and there is an etymological as well as a procedural reason for this. The word impeach can be traced back through Anglo-Norman empecher to Late Latin impedicre, “to catch, entangle,” from Latin pedica, “fetter for the ankle, snare.” Thus we find that Middle English empechen, the ancestor of our word, means such things as “to cause to get stuck fast,” “hinder or impede,” “interfere with,” and “criticize unfavorably.” A legal sense of empechen is first recorded in 1384. This sense, which had previously developed in Old French, was “to accuse, bring charges against.”

MIDI - THE SUN WILL COME UP TOMORROW - find it under "Annie"

Tomorrow, tomorrow
Impeachment's tomorrow
And what will the buttboys say?
Impeachment will come
Tomorrow
They will talk of China
Come tomorrow
It's in store
The truth will see light
Tomorrow
There are ADFA records
Semen sorrow
And much more
There are bribery and threats
Place bets
They know it
There is all that cocaine
Insane
He'll pay

There'll be FBI files
Tomorrow
And the rape of Broad-a-rick
Tomorrow
What a day

Tomorrow, tomorrow
We'll see it
Tomorrow

And what will the buttboys say?

It was the White House intern named Monica.
From her knees played Bill’s bent harmonica.
After the obstructionist lied.
Impeachment was tried.
But then Republicans went limp; how ironica.

The year - 2200. What is know by school kids about the various Presidents:

Carter - Stagflation.

I would rank Carter in the "Who?" range. How many incompetent 19th century presidents who stumbled through some short term fiscal problems can you name? Probably none because they just kind of disappear into history. You have to really screw up like Hoover (who started down the high-tax big spending path Roosevelt followed) in order to be remembered for fiscal problems.

You forgot to mention Kathleen Willey's cat. In Trent Lott's position, and assuming I had some way of doing it without handing the presidency over to Algor, I'd have had one of Kathleen Willey's little kids up on prime time television to ask the nation one question:

"Why did Mister Slick have to kill Fluffy to try to scare my mommy?"

and see what the democrats had to say.

**Ah, that poster whom I will assume is female is why women don't deserve the right to vote............ Just kidding, sort of kind of......... **

I think you may have 'read' her wrong. She may have been attempting to convey her sorrow over the depraved nature Clinton made up his presidency...not that she was sorry he was impeached.

You're right, though the posted rant-letter is not all that well-written. However, I agree with you that without Clinton, the GOP would not have gained as much we did in all elections from 1992-2002 except 1998 because of the revulsion factor. We probably could not have passed welfare reform without Clinton's triangulation. Even his tax increases (along with the Bush 41 tax increase coupled with the temporary cap on congressional spending) did indeed help reduce the deficit without materially slowing the economy, though the booming economy played a huge role in producing the necessary tax revenues.

But the Devil overclaims his successes, many of which were forced on him by Gingrich's Contract for America and a Republican Congress. Clinton's greatest claim of success was the economy though he had almost nothing to do with its stellar performance since it was really an extension of Reaganomics (the press stopped calling it that when supply-side economics was shown to work -- the tide that raised all boats) -- interrupted briefly by Greenspan's obsession with bringing inflation to zero by increasing interest rates to 10%.

Moreover, Clinton burst his own bubble in large part by attacking biotech, telecom, and high tech firms like Microsoft, not to mention the bankrupting tactics (85 companies out of business due to asbestos claims alone?) of his loyal trial lawyer supporters and other measures which swelled the costs of doing business. The resultant crash of the stock markets and drying up of seed money contributed to the recession Bush had to confront. If there's silver-lining, Bush is burnishing the credentials of conservatives and supply-siders by bringing the economy out of its malaise at just the right time.

Overall, however, anyway you cut it, America would have been better off without Clintin and his wife. You can't convince me otherwise.
