Here's some happy news this Christmas season, an unexpected gift for those who have seen and admired Mel Gibson's controversial movie, "The Passion," and wish to support it. The film has a new admirer, and he is a person of some influence. He is in fact the head of the Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church.

I know we may get some jerks on here because of the idiotic events/statements coming out of the Vatican recently, but this is some good news!

"It is as it was."

This coming from a man who is rumored to be a mystic. A very powerful endorsement.

The Holy Father should stick with what he knows. And he does know the Lord's Passion. I'm very glad he approves of Mel's movie.

It's more specific people. Cardinal Martino has been critical of the treatment of Saddam, and someone made the mistake of inviting Lauryn Hill, the "hip-hop" artist, to a Vatican concert, and she ended up criticizing the Vatican on the priest scandal. A bunch of people on here were condoning her behavior and statements, while overlooking her obvious hypocrisy.

I'm sure Mel was sweating over what the pope would say and it looks as if all of Mel's hard work has paid off.

I don't have strong opinions for or against this movie but I do know Mel Gibson was the victim of some serious character assassination.

I am struck by the power of those few words by the Pope however, and happy for Gibson.

He is in fact the head of the Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church

Much as I hate to throw water on this thread, the Pope is NOT the head of the Apostolic church!

Other than that, I am glad he approved of the film and his 5 word response shows the character of the man has not failed him in his declining years.

MapKernow you wrote, "The Holy Father should stick with what he knows. And he does know the Lord's Passion. I'm very glad he approves of Mel's movie."

I hope that you were not refering to the pope as the holy father. This is the problem with Catholisism you have forgotten who is the holy father - Jesus - God in heaven. Put your trust in a man on earth and you will be decieved. I hope catholics like yourself will see the truth and read the bible for yourself. It is a personal relationship with God that matters not some relationship with a less than perfect human here on earth who serves as a go-between.

I refer to the Pope anyway I want. And since I am Catholic, I'll call him the "Holy Father."

Please don't trade Bible verses with me: I read the Bible every day, and what I read there is one of the reasons I'm a Catholic.

Now, would you mind posting about the topic of this thread, please?
