National news media feeds garbage to public

Hickory Daily Record Tuesday, December 9, 2003

I feel for Michael Baker and his not being able to watch "fair and balanced" news coverage of Supreme Court presidential appointee George W. Bush and his so-called "Healthy Forest Restoration Act." I wanted him to know that I agree completely with him.

A fair and balanced press corps would ask why the logging industry, which is ga ga over this bill and supported it, has contributed over $14 million to federal candidates, including a sweet half million to Dubya himself.

In addition, they should ask why the logging industry has spent an additional $23 million lobbying on behalf of this bill.

You’d think they would have reported that the logging industry sought this bill not for their benevolent nature to remove brush and chaparral, but because it would increase commercial logging with less environmental oversight. According to Ross W. Corte of the Congressional Research Service, "Timber harvesting removes the relatively large diameter wood that can be converted into wood products, but leaves behind the small material, especially twigs and needles," that contribute to forest fires.

The bill would also require judges to reconsider decisions that block illegal logging for 60 days.

Now that we’ve exposed this "Healthy Forest Act" for the sham it is, let’s get to the crux of the issue- the media and the fact that they refuse to call Bush out on the carpet for his lies.

Why have we yet to hear the real story regarding Bush and his days of desertion from his alleged National Guard service? The legendary photo-op from the USS Abraham Lincoln?

We all know about those few choice words he uttered in his State of the Union address as well. The war is over in Iraq? Tell it to the families of the servicemen and women who face danger there every day, some paying for it with their very lives. The Thanksgiving Day "dinner" with the troops is my personal favorite.

The troops were supposedly shocked and awed by the presence of Dubya, yet you have to wonder if you were told you’d be eating Thanksgiving dinner between 6 and 7 a.m. you might think something was up now, wouldn’t you?

I am still waiting to hear about his driving record from Texas, which has been "lost" and isn’t available, or his refusal to take drug tests while serving his alleged National Guard service, and how he continually shafts hard-working men and women to placate his fat-cat buddies.

I agree with you 100 percent, Michael, and do look forward to the day when the media has the courage to stand up to this bully and his rabid dog pals, like Karl Rove.

Until then, I guess you’re going to have to settle for Fox News and the complete and total garbage they broadcast every day.

You can go to bed at night all warm and fuzzy, with the voices of "real" newsmen, like Bill O’Reilly, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity in your ears.

Thank goodness for those voices of reason!

Gary W. Long

This guy writes this same type of trash every month. I'm going to start responding. I'd like to point out to the reading public that these letters have nothing to do with policy, and everything to do with being a sore loser... I know that my friends here are much better at expressing opinions, and stating facts, than I am. So... a little help please.

Wasn't that dinner 6 or 7 AM local time, ie, the US? I believe it was evening Iraq time. Otherwise, his overdosing on Bush's pre-presidential history compares favorably with the trail of death and drugs the Clintons left behind them in Arkansas. Of course, you'll never get a letter published that points this out.

Each paragraph, each sentence (in the original) is a lie (repeated every hour, every day BY the media mouthing the democratic lies).

So the problem is: How do you write a reply that exposes EACH of his statements as a lie?

And, at the same time, expose the media (this paper) AS THE SOURCE OF THE LIES?

It's not even worth it to reply to crap like this, ChadsDad.

Every fool except Gary Long knows the State of the Union only happens once a year, and the last one happened BEFORE we went to Iraq. BEFORE.

And if this peckerwood can't tell the difference between the Capitol and an aircraft carrier in the Pacific, he's beyond reaching.

You want help? Ask why the fire access roads, built to high standards by the logging company's as a requirement to fulfill their contracts to be allowed to log, were taken out recently at great taxpayer expense as a requirement to please the ecologists, which in turn has taken out many a forest due to the inaccessible raging fires?

Ask why during a 7 year drought in the Sierra mountains, the Sierra Club sued to halt the cutting out of bug infestations so that "birds would have homes". The end result was the loss of over 40% of the High Sierra Pines.

Ask why the old growth forest is dying out, choked out by brush and small pines that the government cannot afford to clear anymore because all the money they once earned to maintain the forest from selective logging, is now going to fight the Sierra Club's use of the court systems to block all logging.

"Ecologists" have destroyed more trees in the last ten years due to their forcing their political agenda, unconnected from scientific husbandry of the land, than loggers have cut in the last 200 years.

Ask why ecologists call for the use of steel in homes, instead of lumber, when lumber grows again and steel is a unrenewable resource? You want an eye opener? Look at pictures of California in the 1900's and in 2000. Pick shots of the same spots. You will see forests in one set and bare land in the other. Yep, in 1900 there were a fraction of the trees in California than in 2000. Now look at spots in California. In many of those areas entire forests have disappeared, due to the fires caused by Bad Management BY THE SERRIA CLUB and its rape of our country's forestland by grandstand fund raising.

Ask why in Sonora California, when the worlds first zero discharge goldmine was built, the Ecologists shut it down anyway, forcing mining to give up on making zero discharge mines? Mining moved overseas where there are NO controls on discharge from mines.

Ask why the Ecologists, in the name of saving the California Mountain lion population forced a ban on all hunting of the lions. They within five years wiped out the California deer herds, overpopulated and then began to starve to death. Result: Less lions than before, less deer, and children and hikers being eaten by starving lions.

Oh yeah, one other result, The Sierra Club made million's and millions in the campaign... Ecologists do not use ecological science, but emotion and the media, and they do not do it for the forest, but to line their pockets from city dwellers that believe their lies. The holocaust of my beloved Sierra mountains was the result of their forcing of their political agenda on those who lived in loved and tended the forest's for generations. Does the Sierra Club come from the Sierras? Nope, San Francisco, where they cut the forests down ages ago, and make a practice of f****ing their fellow man to fill their lusts. And that is exactly what they have been doing to the forests of their neighbors.

Beware when a man worships creation rather than the Creator, for the wisdom of man is foolishness in the eyes of God.

Oh, and no matter where Bush spoke, he didn't say "The war in Iraq is over".

And Rush Limbaugh doesn't work for FOX.

Sheesh, these people are suffering from visual and aural mass hallucinations.

"According to Ross W. Corte of the Congressional Research Service, "Timber harvesting removes the relatively large diameter wood that can be converted into wood products, but leaves behind the small material, especially twigs and needles," that contribute to forest fires."

One of Long's many problems stems from quoting people like this guy, Corte, who obviously knows little or nothing about harvesting timber.

"Small material," i.e. twigs, needles, etc, are called "slash," and in normal times, it is disposed of in controlled burns. At least it used to be until the enviro-nazis got their humped-up liberal judges to put a stop to it.

Long is obviously one of those rabid liberals who are so filled with hate that they are now unencumbered by the thought process.

Tell him
"It's the economy stupid."

More jobs for loggers = more people hired.
More people hired = less unemployment.
More brush cleared = Less destructive fires.
Less destructive fires = Less $$$ States and Federal governments have to shell out.

It's the economy stupid!
