LANSING -- Four Ithaca teens were sentenced to spend four weekends in jail for their participation in an anti-war demonstration in December 2002 at a military recruiter's office.
Marie Grady De Mott, 17, Oona Grady DeFlaun, 18, Ana Grady Flores, 17, and Anna Ritter, 17, were sentenced Tuesday by Lansing Town Court Justice William Burin. In September, the teenagers were convicted of third-degree criminal trespass, a class B misdemeanor. The charges were brought against them for trespassing on Dec. 21, 2002, at the military recruiter's office at the Cayuga Mall in Lansing.

"It seems to me, somehow we failed to explain full enough the reasons for our being there," De Mott said.Obviously.
"I don't believe I committed a crime by going to the recruitment center."
The State of New York obviously disagrees.
The four defendants stated they ...would rather be sentenced to community service so they could continue informing the community about the military....Assistant District Attorney Jevon Garrett recommended to the court that each of the defendants receive...community service....[the judge] sentenced each of them to four weekends in Tompkins County jail.
Good for this judge!
The Assistant D.A., on the other hand, needs to grow some stones. What kind of idiot recommends community service for people like this? All he was doing was giving them what they specifically asked for-- an opportunity to go to continue to spout anti-war drivel and call it "community service."
It's hippie-coddling prosecutors like this who have helped turn Ithaca into the City of Evil.

I get the feeling the first three are related somehow.
I was afraid that they'd done some damage to go to weekend jail, seeing as Ithaca normally slaps wrists and coddles leftist temper tantrums.
But, seeing as the judge actually showed some spine, I'm surprised.

It's likely community service would be voter registration signing up people for Greenpeace or the Green party.

The judge knew exactly why they were there. Hence the jail sentence. This will guarantee them celebrity status at Cornell University.

so they could continue informing the community about the military. Listen you punks. The military you want to inform the community about (doubtless using your vast amount of world experience) is the only entity that stands between you and possible rape/murder by goons like Saddam and others of his ilk. So shut your stupid mouths and try to be out of the diaper stage before you again try to interact with adults.

Judge should've made them take care of MR patients for four weekends. Cleaning up adult piss and crap is very mind altering. Might get thier brainwashed minds on the real world and caring in the right direction instead worrying about Mass US Government graves, Blackhelicopters and the Dangerous Republican Brainwave Machines being aimed at them....DOH!
Sorry, the secrets out.....My bad.

Grady sure is a popular name in those parts.
Afterward, Burin told the teenagers and the courtroom audience that the court would impose a $250 fine. Acknowledging the defendants' refusal to pay a fine, he sentenced each of them to four weekends in Tompkins County jail. Beginning Jan. 9, the defendants are scheduled to arrive at 6 p.m. Friday and be released at 7 a.m. Monday, Burin said. At least the judge grounded them for a month, which more than their parents would probably do. Punks...

You've revealed the entire VRWC. The Illuminati are knocking my door even as I type. The Bildeberger Lawyers, and stern Masonic judges. Farewell, good friend. They are coming....

Oh the humanity of it all.
Isn't there something in the Bill of Rights concerning "cruel & unusual punishment".
I mean what's next?
..."suspension" of their drugs?

I was noticing that myself. I'll just speculate that they are the products of one father who knocked up three women in roughly a year. I'll further speculate that this may have occurred during some weirdo-hippie-free-love-group-sex type of thing, but who knows...
Either way, I've e mailed all three and asked, in the nicey liberal tone I used to use to disguise myself on DU. I'll let you know if I get a response.

Pay no attention to the entry in #12. That was somebody else using my name. There are no Illuminati. There are no Bilderberger Lawyers or Stern Masonic Judges. It was just the Girl Scouts selling cookies who were knocking on my door. Something is wrong with my account here at FreeRepublic, so I am using my friend's account to post this message.
Oh, and, by the way, I am taking an emergency vacation to the Bahamas for the next several years. So don't be surprised if I don't post any more.

Oh, they're martyrs for the cause.
They're Nelson Mandela.
They're Martin Luther King.
They're Josef Stalin.
They're Sadaam Hussein.
They're Ho Chi Min.
They're John the Baptist.
They're Dostoevsky
They are brothers and sisters in solidarity in jail cells because they have dared to speak out against the repressive policies of The Man.
The smugness of their self-assured martyrdom can be smelled from far away.
