Floridians mob Hillary Clinton

She's the junior senator from New York and she's not running for president, but Hillary Clinton drew enthusiastic crowds in South Florida on Tuesday, demonstrating once again that she is one of the most popular Democratic politicians in the nation.

Clinton was treated more like a rock star than a Yale-trained lawyer and former first lady turned senator.

Long lines of fans sought signed copies of her best-selling memoir, Living History, at the Barnes & Noble in Wellington and at Books & Books in Coral Gables.

She was mobbed at a fund-raising luncheon reception for the Brigham and Women's Hospital of Boston in West Palm Beach and a fund-raising dinner for the Democratic National Committee in Miami.

For many Democrats, Clinton elicits nostalgia.

"For a lot of younger Democrats, the eight years when the Clintons were in the White House are the only Democratic years they remember," said David Niven, a Florida Atlantic University political scientist.

Those memories and Clinton's personal charisma translate into strong support. But she also is a polarizing figure.

Anyone doubt for a moment that the clinton advance team works hard to ensure positive receptions. These events are clearly staged as they were during their administration.

I thought a mob was what the extreme far-right evil Republicans sponsored to come to Florida during the 2000 election SNAFU. I didn't realize a mob was a good thing.

Who knew?

Barnes & Noble has an agreement with it's teachers union members residing near it's stores. Hold one of these events during school hours and watch.

What is the big deal? She is among her constituents. This time of the year all her NY supporters are down there.

"Most of the residents of "South Florida" couldn't find their rear ends with both hands...are socialist and liberal to the core."

A totally ridiculous statement. You obviously have not been in Miami during an election. Esepcailly the 2000 one..

As a native Floridian, I hate to say this, but your spel chequer should have corrected "Floriduh" to FloriDUH".

Capital letters can be our friends.

In closing, what is the appeal of the Clintons, other than perversion, corruption, and reason?

The only thing wrong with that knot in the sweater is that it is far too loose.

Pants suits...black, but underlying blue blouse....Guess who else was wearing the same outfit last night, but w/o the sweater? Yup, Diane Sawyer...and after the interview, I switched to CSPAN just in time to watch Hitlery "rally" the troops on live TV.

Had to read this thread to connect the fashion dots. Now, if I were into conspiracies about fashion, I would actually consider that Diane and Hitlery wearing identical outfits on the same night on national TV was not a coincidence....but my tinfoil hat is the best available...

"prattle" you mentioned based on the pic. I heard her voice during her final rallying comments. I can report that only the words "rasping screech" are fit to describe this woman's voice. She sounds really, really bad when she is attempting to rally the faithful. And that's good...

BTW, After Sawyer's interview of our President last night, I have decided she is a witch on a par w/ Hitlery now in my book. What she did to both Laura and George during that hour was absolutely wrong - and I'm betting that is the last time she ever gets a sit down with either of them...

Those same people would show up for Peewee Herman in similar numbers. It's says more about the kind of 'groupies' they are than anything else.

I am not be concerned about anything that happens in Miami or anywhere in deep South Florida.
The reasoning powers of those living in Miami are an excellent example of a well-known fact: too much sun for too long has negative effects on the brain.

Anyway, the people who turn out to hear Hilly-dilly-Doc are most likely predisposed to her message.

Mark my words...

"Hillary Clinton will be the 2004 democratic nominee for President Of The United States. She will be "persuaded" to "unite the party" and will be nominated "by acclamation" at the convention in Boston."

What a friendly headline they gave her?

But, in reality, "mobbed" in this instance means "a number of people gathered around."

The proof is the location:

(1) Democratic fundraiser -- these are high-priced plates and elite entrance only. What does "mob" mean in that setting?

(2) A bookstore and a book-signing. This comes closer to "large crowd." I don't think I've ever heard of a "mall" bookstore being described as a "mob." Nor have I ever heard about a group of people in a LINE being called a "mob."
