Limbaugh: Keep my records private
CNN ^ | December 16, 2003 | Susan Candiotti and Rich Phillips

Embattled radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh is asking a Palm Beach County, Florida, court to keep his medical records sealed from prosecutors investigating whether he illegally purchased prescription painkillers.

The records were seized from two of his doctors' offices last month. The search warrants itemizing what was seized was filed in court December 4.

Two more search warrants were obtained but not executed, two law enforcement sources said.

Limbaugh's move came as prosecutors were getting ready to file a motion of their own to examine the records, as required by Florida law, prosecutors said.

Here are my thoughts on the subject.

This story may or may not be a little bit different from what's going on but here in Oklahoma where I sit, we have an attorney general who is a Democrat and political opportunist.

So, if the state's attorney in Florida who is a Democrat can seize the medical records of an outspoken political adversary, can the same thing happen in my state? I think it can.

About a year and a half ago, I was diagonsed with Perdontitis which is a receding of the gums.(All of my medical history has been dental although I did have a checkup at the local medical clinic in my city.)

So the dentist sent me down to an oral surgery clinic to have my two wisdom teeth removed on the bottom.

After looking at the x-rays, the oral surgeon determined that this wasn't going to be a simple as he thought and decided that I needed to take some medications before he could perform the surgery.

The medicines prescribed to me were: Cleocin, Predisone (which is a steroid) and lorcet which was a voluntary pill. I took the full two weeks worth of dosage of all those pills along with a mouthwash called Peridex.

A few weeks later I had the surgery to remove my wisdom teeth. It was successful and it was painless. They did of course put me to sleep before performing the procedure. I can tell you that if it weren't for those painkillers, I would have been in pain from the tooth extractions for a long time.

It's awfully easy to go and make fun of and play politics when you've never been through the kind of stuff that people like me have been before, but until you've been through this, you don't know what it's like.

I'm just as much of an out spoken critc of the Democrats and their tax and spend liberal policies as Rush is so the question is can the attorney general in my state go after my medical records and trump up charges against me? I think he could if he wanted to if he didn't like the things I stood for. I would urge all those conservatives living in state with Democrats as attorney generals to think about this and decide if this is the kind of person you want enforcing the law in your own jurisdiction. I know I wouldn't.
Regards.

"HE WOULD CO-OPERATE FULLY WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS.

Co-operating doesn't mean you have to give up any of your rights."

... and I suppose one of those rights would be the one that says you do not HAVE to co-operate.

... you have the right to remain silent......

Doctor shopping is fraud.

Well the doctors and insurance companies have finally done it. Just because I am self insured I cannot shop for the doctors with the lowest rates. Damn shame.

The strict laws are the only reason Rush is clean right now

So, we can violate the Constitution and scrap the bill of rights to solve one individuals personal problem?

How did Rush's drug use cause a problem in my life?
What gives me the right to dictate to Rush Limbaugh what he can and cannot consume?

Drug prohibition propaganda tells us that drug use will fry your brain and turn you into a skid row bum.
In view of the propaganda, how do you explain a Rush Limbaugh?

Drug prohibition is not about drugs. It is about big government. The more criminals we can create translates directly into more money for big government.

Crime is rampant in our country not because of drugs, but because of the mismanagement of law enforcement dollars.

We need cops on the streets in high crime areas, but our money doesn't go for that. It goes for drug war nonsense!

What a rant. I guess this means you have no argument against the fact that the drug laws might have saved Rush's life.

ROTFL!

I guess this means you cannot answer the questions I asked you!

Might and maybe just don't fly when it comes to the freedoms gauranteed by our Constitution.

His criminal suppliers supposedly kept his secret for years - do you think he could not have found legitimate doctors who would have done the same ?

I don't know. I don't care. What Rush does is none of my business.

So, what you are saying is that Rush is a dangerous criminal and should be locked up in prison just like Tommy Chong?

Or...Should we let him off the hook because he's rich and likeable?

Or...Should we scrap the Constitution and Bill of Rights because Rush has a personal problem?

The drug laws are constitutional. You opinions are based on fantasy. Rush would still be an addict if not for the laws. Denial is a trait of druggies and other addicts. So is projection.

Ok you're right, I'm wrong.

We should throw the book at Rush. Execution would set a good example.

We also need to put a stop to religion. Clergy molesting our children cannot be tolerated. Execute all Christians!

Homosexuals need to be dealt with. They spread disease and increase our medical care costs. Execute them!

Black people need to be dealt with. Their hip and hop is driving me nuts. Execute them!

Fat white people need to be dealt with. They take food from the downtrodden and increase our health care costs. Execute them!

All of the above are perfectly legitimate under your new and improved Constituion.

Don't believe it? Just ask anyone who lived in Germany in the thirties. If you can make a criminal of a person for drugs, you can make him a criminal for any reason under the sun.

All you have to do is have your court say "it's constitutional"!

Rush has been back on his game of late, but he was not totally honest about his problem. Afterall, he didn't fess up until he was exposed.

There's a big difference between being honest about something and telling everything. There are many things I've not told folks on FR, but I have been honest with them.

Ed Asner said they are going after Rush first, then Hannity. My guess is FR is next, after that.

Nope ... just follow the law... He chose his own path...
...In my opinion a very foolish one for someone with the resources to make much better ones, but his choice nevertheless...

I'll agree, very foolish indeed!
But, Rush is an adult. He has the right to make any foolish decision his heart desires. That's what freedom is all about.

He has done nothing to harm me. What gives me the right to dictate to him what he can or cannot consume?

"What gives me the right to dictate to him what he can or cannot consume?"

Being a citizen of a representative republic ?

Being a part of a society whose individual protections have not extended to the unlimited use of substances that said society has deemed controlled ?

Living in a society whose Constitution, by the inclusion of the 18th and 21st amendments, affirms the right of the society at large to impose those particular dictates ?

If Nakita Dean can seal his records, then why shouldn't everyone have that same right?
