"Oh how dare they! :-("

Really. So, these are black kids hanging out. The author seems to make that point again and again in the article. I wonder why that is?

The cop that rousted those white boys back in 1971 was wrong. It's that simple. If the kids are not doing anything illegal, then they're not doing anything illegal by hanging around together.

How far we've come, I say, in the wrong direction.

It never occurred to us to sue the Long Beach Police Department for abuse of authority and profiling. Maybe that was because when Kevan & Co. jumped out of their cars, we were just about to commit a felony or three, breaking into cars in that parking lot. Maybe because we hadn’t been taught to scream bloody murder, when we got caught doing wrong. Maybe because we were white.

And what if Kevan & Co. had left us alone? We would have broken into cars, and stolen stereos and such, as planned, sold our booty for a couple of dollars, and eventually shifted about to steal bigger and more expensive objects – like entire cars. Between the law of averages and our natural stupidity, we all would have ended up arrested multiple times.

*** SOOOOOO we need the nanny police state not parents to teach kids to behave. Maybe he wasn't worried because he thought he'd get off BECAUSE he was white. I am not impressed by this article. I see more racial profiling in this article than by cops.

He did say that the police were right to stop them as they were planning a crime or two. Perhaps the police already had their number so to speak? He should know, he was one of them. While I understand what you guys are saying, I think you all might have missed the point here.
