The state Senate Republican leader wants to erect a monument to Democratic U.S. Sen. Zell Miller, who has been blasted by leaders of his national party but embraced by more conservative politicians.
Sen. Bill Stephens (R-Canton), whose legislative district includes Miller's hometown of Young Harris, said he was prompted to pre-file the legislation Monday in response to the criticism about Georgia's senior senator.
The latest came last week, when former President Jimmy Carter joined the Democratic chorus to say that "one of the worst mistakes" former Gov. Roy Barnes made was to appoint Miller to the Senate after Republican Sen. Paul Coverdell died in July 2000.

And the biggest mistake Jimmy Carter ever made is every time he opens his peanut eatin', redneck, hillbilly mouth. Apologies to all rednecks, hillbillies and peanut eaters. I detest that man as much as I detest the Clintons.

former President Jimmy Carter joined the Democratic chorus to say that "one of the worst mistakes" former Gov. Roy Barnes made was to appoint Miller to the Senate No it wasn't. But perhaps the biggest mistake the U.S. electorate ever made was electing Jimmy Carter the 39th President.

LOL!
The Democrats will be left to whine about erecting a statue to a Democrat!

That peanut broker (not even really a farmer) ain't no hillbilly . . . he's from the edge of the Wiregrass Country, down in SW Georgia. The whole place is flat as a table, there's no water pressure, and it's Below the Gnat Line. All the inhabitants have mostly moved to Albany.
(I apologize to all Wiregrass Freepers - but I spent the most uncomfortable summer of my life investigating a big warehouse fire in Dothan Alabama, which in addition to having lots of warehouses had the dubious distinction at least at that time (early 80s) of the Prophylactic Capital of the World. It was hot, buggy, and there was absolutely nothing to do after 5 o'clock, despite the prevalence of the wherewithall to make whoopee. Not that I was in any mood to do so after slogging around in wellies through thousands of pounds of half-burned peanuts and surplus government cheese. Yuck.)

Thanks for the ping.
I hope they put up a statue TWICE as big as ol' Jimmuh's. Whoever the sculptor is for Jimmah's statue didn't know his business, 'cause it ain't very lifelike and it don't look a thing like the old coot.

Frankly, I think this more accurately represents Jimmuh:

"Huh?? I gave it all away!"

Remember the year - 1979.
Remember the man -Jimmy Carter
The man who started WW4.
If he had done his job when he was president, we wouldn't be in this mess even now.

Zell Miller deserves MUCH more than this sorry excuse for a leader. Zell remembers what the REAL Democratic party was like.
I don't believe in everything he stands for but at least he stands for something.

Hey now! Give Carter some credit his malaise and ignorance brought in one of the greatest U.S. presidents.
