You got that right! Been there and done that. I am now out of that cesspool of a state and thankful of it. Get out while you have a chance. But don't stop in Texas until you see some prickly pear. East Texas is just as bad.

If the repubs pick up the 5 southern seats and somehow manage to pick up a couple more, it will still not be a fillibuster proof majority. It may be on judicial nominees, but thats about it. If the repubs get to 56-58 senators, it will significantly reduce the influence of the Rinos like Snowe, Chafee, McCain and Collins who don't support ANWAR, medicare overhaul, private accounts for Social Security, etc. The rebubs would need about 65 seats to truly have a fillibuster proof majority.

Howie Dean as the dim candidate should help the Pubs pick up a couple of those open Senate seats in the South. One thing's for sure, there won't be any "joint appearances" between the Senate candidate and Howie.

There is no such thing as a "better Dem". Breaux getting elected just puts the likes of the Swimmer and Leahy in charge of committees and dashole in charge of the Senate. I'll take a RINO any day in favor of a so-called "good Democrat." If they were any good, they'd switch parties.

I was speaking in relative terms when I called him a good RAT, you are right we are talking about shades of black.
Since Louisianians send them to Washington, D.C. where they screw it up for the rest of us, I feel that we all can comment on Federal congress-critters. I think with Bush heading up the ticket, a Conservative has a chance, we'll see.

As I said on another thread, now that Breaux has made it official, then I think the Rats will not even try to monetarily defend Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina, and instead spend all their money on saving their seats in LA and FL.

What makes you think Jindal can win statewide? He just lost a statewide race just over a month ago. I believe LA has elected senators twice recently that had justb come off a loss in the governor's race. I'm not saying Jindal should run, but he got nearly 50% in a statewide race a few weeks ago, it's not impossible to believe he could do it. Plus, Democrats in the South tend to be less party loyal in Senate races, then races for governor. I don't know if he's the best choice, but I think Jindal would make a great Senator.

Why isn't Tauzin a possibility for the Senate?

That is a possibility. Breaux has already criticized Howard Dean's campaign, and implied that he wouldn't support him in a general election.

So is the name Edwin Edwards.

FC is lamenting the fact that because Jindal isn't white, the racist LA voters will not elect him. LA was lucky to have a candidate like Jindal. They haven't had the chance to elect a quality individual like that in a long time.
To: nickcarraway
Yes you are correct about electing Senators that have just lost the Governor race..... Two of their last three Senators were elected that way... J. Bennett Johnston and Mary Landrieu were both elected the next year after having lost in the Governors race.
Since Reconstruction every elected Senator from Louisiana has come from the Democrat party.... Sometime in the future that will change, maybe this time.....
Jindal I think will go onto other things. I don't have a guess as to what, maybe a place in the next Bush Administration, etc but I don't see him being a Senator or Representative. I see him where he can set his on course more than being one of many in the Congress.

Well said post #8! Breaux is still a RAT. If he had such good common sense he wouldn't be a member of that stinking party.

Bobby Jindal lives in the Baton Rouge-based 5th. district.

Yes he was a quality candidate, but he didn't win and that in the final analysis is the goal. Running second for what ever reason doesn't get the job done....
I've not seen any final analysis of the voting patterns in the governors race but some indications were that Jindal got only some 48% in the white rural vote. He needed to have about 60%+ to win statewide in La.

Oh, I was just ranting. I don't think Jindal should run again right now. Louisiana doesn't deserve him.

At least if the Pubbies put up a well-known, well-liked conservative senatorial candidate, there's a glimmer of hope we could take it.
What's Al Hirt doing these days, LOL.

But don't stop in Texas until you see some prickly pear. East Texas is just as bad. How right you are!
