He allowed fans to pet and play with him, even crawl on his back, becoming such an attraction that animal protection authorities imposed a ban on approaching him.
"I once I had a friend describe him as a 4,000-pound golden retriever," Collson said. "He was like the family dog; he wanted to be next to you."
Probably died of lonlyness.

I was once in a meeting that included some people that thought the idea of "Free Willy" actually made sense. This was after one of the sequels was released. In the small talk at the start of the meeting someone asked me what was new.
I said we had just completed watching the Free Willy Trilogy. I received these positive, knowing nods. "Yup," I said, "Let's see, there was Free Willy, Willy Eats Seals and Recapture Willy." The small talk sort of dried up after that.

I never saw the movie and did not know it was about a whale. I thought it was Bill Clintons biography.

And before you know it there will be a 24hr wake on MSNBC which will dwarf the JFK funeral coverage.

"died Friday after suddenly contracting pneumonia"
Americans will also be urged night and day to get their pneumonia shots by the CDC and NIH....and suddenly there will be a shortage of the vaccine available.....

"Keiko, who spent his early years working on the whale road, always claimed that his movie career was based on a fluke."

Guess the sequel to Free Willy is gonna be Bury Willy.

Good! I love animals, and don't like to hear of them suffering, but I am so freakin' sick of hearing of this whale.

However, it's nice to know that his spirit lives on, in Hillary.

The first thing I wondered when I heard this on tv was this. Just what DOES one do with a dead whale?
I mean, it's not like you can bury him in the back yard by the swingset.
