Yes, I'm aware that it is not scriptural. Many use it as if it were.

"We can definately put ourselfs in the way of trouble that is more than we can bear."We can agree to disagree on this one. IMO, the scriptures (see #771) are very clear in stating that God will provide us the strength to bear anything this world throws at us, provided we avail ourselves of this gift. While I agree that some circumstances may be more than we can bear alone, God promises us that there are no circumstances that we cannot bear if we accept His help.

I seem to remember a long ago poster by the screen name A+Bert who as I recall struggled with alcohol and it spilled into this forum
This is the first time I've seen people use the words "seem to remember" about A+bert. (Most folks memories of him are quite vivid).

You could give me a paper clip and three bits of fluff and I would get addicted to it.
You know this for a fact?

Arne's beef was that people on FR were putting TILH's sucide as a noble and heroic act.
I admit I didn't read every single post on the thread, but I read most of it and didn't get the impression people thought his suicide was noble or heroic. I saw a lot of people saying positive things about him because hey, the guy just died. But I didn't see any romanticizing of suicide.

I wasn't sure if that a struggle with alcohol was the problem and was trying to not come on too strongly with my memory. I have been wrong in the past and didn't was to wrongly accuse.

Psalms 31, 9-22:
9: Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.
10: For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.
11: I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me.
12: I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.
13: For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.
14: But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God.
15: My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.
16: Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies' sake.
17: Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.
18: Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.
19: Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!
20: Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.
21: Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.
22: For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.
My comment: When we trust in the Lord, no matter how low we have sunk, no matter how heavy our burden, He will see us through it.
No, that statement you quoted from my response to mhking, which was actually his to begin with, is *not* taken directly from the Bible. However, in many places we are taught (As in the case of Job and the burden he beared) that God holds us up when we think we have hit bottom.
Hope this helps. If not, I'll try to find more supporting scripture.

It comes from what I've learned coming up.
The best anology can be likened to exercise. When you think you've reached "the wall" and can go no further, you (or many) find they can call upon an inner strength to go "just a little bit farther."
That "inner strength" is not unlike a call to God. If you call to Him, He will provide the strength to call upon to get past that "wall," no matter what. His strength is infinite, and you can lean on Him for your every need.
I'm not in great straits now, and times are difficult. But He is helping me to survive, even now.

It is a theme that appears throughout the Bible. Not in that exact text, but clearly a message that is there for all to see.
I'm not in great straits now, and times are difficult. But He is helping me to survive, even now.
Thank God, Michael. You have my prayers that your remaining burdens are lifted soon.

I do not want to be driven off FR by the likes of a savage person like this, and if he is who I think he is, it wouldn't matter if I quit FReeping now anyway...he knows where I am.
Who do you think it is? It's very easy to hide behind vague accusations. Be a man and be specific.
And perhaps ask JimRob to check IP addresses from which posts originate. It's possible to pinpoint a location from those. That way, you won't get your tighty-whities in a needless bunch.

My religion does not allow me to accept suicide no matter what the reason and describes it as a selfish act.
Do you say everything you think? My religion (Episcopalianism, for those of you who're keeping score) says quite a few things are unacceptable and wrong, but I don't go around telling everyone that all day. "Don't do that . . . my religion says it's wrong. Too bad you did that . . . my religion says you're going to hell."
Seriously, learn to think before you post. It's a skill that'll help you later in life, especially should you try it when not behind a keyboard.

My religion does not allow me to accept suicide no matter what the reason and describes it as a selfish act. Of course it is a selfish act. To the best of my knowledge no one here is condoning it (of course I haven't been on this thread since Saturday)
As for the religion aspect consider this:
In order to commit serious sin one must intend to
Can one in such a mental state really form that intent?
I know this sounds like the insantity defense, but that is exactly what it is.
Something to ponder over.

Some say, what should a depressive person do? Religion? Meds? Self-help books? Exercise? YES. All of them. Why choose? A person should use every tool they can imagine. I couldn't have said it better myself

You are coorect murdoog. Anyone who could have taken people's post that way needs serious help in the reading comprehension department.

I must say that shows a degree of charity and fairness that is very rare.

Xenalyte, you are way, way, WAY late. The post this is in reference to was Post 232,which was deleted by the admin moderator. Arne Fufkin threatened to disembowel my wife. While she was Freeping with the children watching.
The post you are replying to is actually my wife in drag, on my machine, as is also noted a few posts further on as she posts as herself again. Still higher in the 200 range,I think, but there it is. ya just got into it a little late is all.
Arne, you owe my wife an apology, if you weren't serious. And even (and MOST ESPECIALLY!!!) if you were. You frightened her, and that is not a wise move on your part. You also frightened my children. I am, frankly, surprised you were allowed back on FR. At all. I suppose JimRob knows you didn't mean it, or he wouldn't have let you back. If you ever do it again, though, you are likely to be putting him in the position of responding to a subpoena for your real name and address, etc, so we can arrange for you to speak to your local law enforcement. I tried to conjure up a sense of humor about this post, but I really don't have one on this sort of subject. You do it again, or anything like it, you will receive an invitation for coffee for one. Don't make me talk to you about this again.

I don't doubt that you know more about this than I do, except that I do know that not all the products on sale are pure, and also, people do have different reactions to substances introduced through supplements that are found naturally in our bodies.
My statement is just to warn folks to be cautious.
