I'm sorry to have to report that one of our own Freepers, TrappedInLiberalHell, has passed away. His profile is HERE
I met Chris this past summer and found him to be a brilliant young man, who unfortunately carried around a lot of painful psychological troubles. He wrote few posts here, but was an active and clever noter, and a very sweet young man.

I believe that they exist and that our minds are the battlefields for which they fight to gain control of.
To: PleaseNoMore
That's a powerful testimony.

I remember visiting his tomato site last summer since I was new to the gardening stuff.
This is just too sad. May he rest in peace.....

I'm down with that!

Thank you. There are SOME things I don't change. This issue is one of them.

This should not be a taboo subject and it is certainly nothing to be ashamed of if one has ever suffered through it. Depression seeks to isolate you. The more it is dealt with openly the less it can do so.
To: ChemistCat
yes I would be glad to try to share my knowledge/experiences... limited as they are.
Right now I am burning my dinner at 10 PM for my 85 year old mom & have just had a yummy glass of wine & am pretty tired since I have been up since 4 AM.
I have a feeling you understand

Well, I will, IF someone really wants to hear it. But I'm pretty soft when it comes to the nay-sayers. Or pretty touchy, I should say. Maybe we should have a category on this kind of stuff. This has been an amazing day on FR!
To: PleaseNoMore
yes, you are right.
I am gong to tonight check the profiles of everyone who has posted more than once. I think there will be a "trend " of sorts.
will report back my findings - in a year or two

You are consistently nailing the truth here. I have never studied depression, but I can relate to so much of what you say.
I can say that becoming involved with my local church in home group studies and activities has literally saved my life.

Chris never fully recovered from the death of his mom, Antonia, a published writer, and generally brilliant woman. Now he is finally with her. RIP.I'm so sorry. Prayers for those he left behind.

YES, Ma'am!
I promise it will happen. Just not tonight, please. My "grandkids" are coming in about two hours, and I sort of need a freepin' break. Been at this all day.

If your plans do come to fruition, what a great tribute to Chris that will be.
You are all such great folks.

Cris,
When I plant my garden next year, I hope you will be looking over my shoulder. I too, understand what depression is all about. The VA put me 100% disability due to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which is part of depression. It is something, a kind of hell you go through that you can't really discribe. You have to have been there to understand it even a little bit and then you don't really understand it.
What I do to help myself when I feel like I can bear things no longer is to create little projects to do. I always create one that is easy to do. At the end of the day when I have only accomplished one thing out of many I was to do, I dwell on the fact that I won at least one of the battles.

I think it's remarkable how FReepers come to the aid of others.
A little while back, a FReeper posted a thread where he was extremely candid about a substance abuse problem he was having. I was glad (and frankly amazed) to see an outpouring of FReeper concern and advice and stories of how they overcame similar obstacles.
It is a liberating thing to realize (as PleaseNoMore has said) that you're not alone.
Anyway, I don't know why I posted this except to say FReepers are the greatest.

I do projects too. Genealogy, for me and other folks, I bought an old cuckoo clock and repaired/rebuilt it myself. It's kept me alive.
