Construction: As military families migrate to better quarters at Fort Meade and elsewhere, local authorities strain to educate an influx of children.

Army wife Christine Talbert was speechless when she first visited her family's new living quarters at Fort Meade in September.

The solution is simple and overwhelmingly desired by nearly all the military families I know (especially the enlisted): go back to separate school systems on the larger bases.

At Andrews AFB the kids from on-base housing are stuck in the horrific Prince George County school district. When this first happened, the on-base school's kids dramatically outperformed the rest of the district. The educrats' solution: mix them throughout the district and bring civilians into the base school. The result: virtually all of the base kids are home-schooled or attend private schools.

One can see how this would be a disincentive to re-up on the part of enlisteds senior enough to have school-age kids, the backbone of any armed force.

What hypocritic bullbleep!!!! These "localities" are the first to scream bloody blue murder whenever there is talk of CLOSING any bases, because they just LOOOOVVVEEEEE all that federal money coming into their coffers---but then they object to SPENDING some of that income to support educating the children of the folks who are the REASON for all that extra cash????

Something stinks about this article. Schools' receive their ration of state money based on enrollment, and I've never heard a school lament increased enrollment. These schools are being well-compensated for their increase in students and turning around and whining about it.

Yes - schools that enroll military kids get extra federal funds per student - some of the schools in the Biloxi, MS area rely heavily on these funds because they can do a lot more than if they had to rely on only local/state funds. The more military, the better off the schools.

I also find it interesting that there was nothing said about how illegal "immigrants" put a real drain on things because they can't be denied their "rights".

Perhaps part of the problem is that military families won't like sub-standard, incompetant educators, and are organized enough to actually rock the local political establishment in response

"It's just a tremendous burden," says Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens. "If we go forward, it's going to have an impact somewhere else. We can't do it all."

I can't believe this miserable little turd. It's her JOB to provide an education for children. It's WHAT SHE DOES. And now she says it's a "burden?!!?"

Screw you, Ms. Owens. If you're not willing to do your job and SERVE the children in your community, (remember, that's why they call it government service), you should be fired.

My guess is that she is an administrator and does no teaching. Even if she taught, it would be questionable if she was providing an education or simply indoctrination. Abolish public schools and this will no longer be a problem.

I only had to read down to the fifth response to get to the crux of the matter.

Once again, those defending the freedoms of our nation are sucking hind tit.

This time, they are relegated to privledges even less than illiegal citizens.

I give this country thirty years.
