The White House yesterday said a new immigration review is under way that could lead to amnesty for millions of illegal aliens living and working in the United States.

Confirmation of the review came during a White House briefing, just two days after Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said during a town hall meeting in Miami that the government had to "afford some kind of legal status" to the 8 million to 12 million illegal aliens in the country.

So you think we can round up two million people and deport them. Care to tell me how we would actually accomplish this.......Police raids, lawyers to be sure the folks rounded up are illegal, detention centers, transportation to another country.

If he does an amnesty, I am not voting for him. I now consider such an act treasonous, especially given the results of the last one.

there is no way that we will be able to round everyone of them up and throw them out.

Let's start small, throw out 25% and go from there.

That's easy. Go to every shopping center parking lot in the Phoenix metro area and round up the guys looking for day jobs. Collect their families on the way out, and then ship 'em to the US Military base in Honduras.

It's easy to be a keyboard commando isn't it. I would like to here your logistics in carrying out such a plan.

Right - we can figure out the logistics to invade Afghanistan and Iraq, and can organize logistics to support millions of flood victims, build skyscrapers, send men to the moon, etc, but can't find a few million people without any legal documentation? Just because YOU don't have the vision to see it's possible, doesn't make it so.

BTW I just noticed... If we rearrange the letters of your name, it spells "Dean."

I believe we can incrementally start on 250,000-300,000 in target states, and we can also start in earnest on the state level with blanket denial of social services, drivers licenses, SSN cards, non-recognition of matricula consulada tarjetas, etc. It will be a long, hard battle.

I am in it for the long run.

So, excuse me, but with your naysaying, do nothing skepticism, you can kindly LEAD, FOLLOW, OR GET OUT OF THE WAY. Thanks! :-)

You're right.

I live in Phoenix. There was recently a RUNNING GUN BATTLE on the I-10 freeway (yes, a shoot-out on the freeway!) about a 20 minute drive from where I live between two groups of coyotes. Apparently one had "stolen" the other's "load."

If he Bush wants to folks like this to vote for him...

Apparently, Dane only dislikes drug-related criminals. He'd likely support mass deportation and closing off the borders if it were done in the name of the War on Drugs.

Having read the entire statement by Ridge, it makes sense. Anyone who believes we are going to round up a million illegal immigrants, process them, and deport them are not being realistic.
The knee jerk reaction to trying to solve the problem without careful consideration is quite disappointing.

So because it would be a inconvienence, we shouldn't enforce the law?

How Clintonesque. Hell let's just have a big ole Siesta right down on the White House lawn and Jorge Delano Bush can hand out Pardons and Drivers licenses, SSI claim forms and medicare applications at the same time.

If Bush allows amnesty for illegals, he will never get another vote from me.

TWO yrs. after 9-11 we still have OVER 300k, already ordered DEPORTED, running loose in the country.

Right, that's what I was referring to, the 300,000 "scofflaws" who have already been ordered deported by the U.S. Immigration Court (many after a very lengthy appeals process).

As I said, Ashcroft held a big press conference about merging the scofflaw database into NCIC. That was two years ago.

For those who don't know it, NCIC is the database that's queried by every police department in the U.S. when they run a check on your driver's license, auto license plate, etc.

But since that memorable day two years ago, all has been silent. Not a single word about a single scofflaw being apprehended through NCIC and deported per prior court order.

In fact, I haven't seen even a single report that they actually ever did merge the scofflaw database into NCIC. I'm guessing it never happened despite the hoopla, the commitments, and promises.

"Oh BTW, we wouldn't have an immigration problem if Mexico got it's house in order. That's a tough job but one that can't be ignored since we share close to a 2,000 mile border with them."

We can't control mexico. We can control our border with them though.

They'll reelect Bush, even with this proposal, for fear of President Dean or President Hillary.

I'm wondering if there is any difference. I mean, true basic difference, not just who gets to be on top of the heap when America is finally subborned by socialism.

Even if they do something about the illegals -- but they need to do it in the REVERSE order. SEAL the borders FIRST. Then decide what to do with those who are already here.

Exactly right.

So you think we can round up two million people and deport them.

Yes, it's been done before. Eisenhower did it in the 1950's Maybe we could designate illegals as potential terrorists and use the Patriot Act?

A few months ago, I spotted, while stateside, a latino gentleman actually sitting with the car door open, facing outward, loading a revolver with ammunition, in broad daylight, in the parking lot of a Catholic Church on Sunday.

We called it in of course to 9-11, and the police arrived. We read in the 'tip sheet' later that the guy was an illegal alien from Guatemala.

What in hade's name are these people doing here, and cannot the White House officials see beyond their gated communities and walls and secret service protection what the rest of us are having to put up with!?

BINGO.Patriot Act. Violators of Federal Immigration Law. Transgressors against US border integrity. RICO laws as well.

If that does not sound like a violation of the Patriot Act, I don't know what does.

Of course, 2004 electoral politics and pandering by the gated community-crowd ("Hey, I'm OK and safe, screw you") crowd will supercede that of course.

NO! If President Bush proposes an amnesty for illegal aliens, I'm sitting out the election

I wrote the White House yesterday..a lot of good it will do. And I wrote my Senators.
If Bush puts political aspirations above the good of the country (this is political), I am going to retract my "cut off your nose to spite your face" opinion, and sit it out myself. We are too far gone.

"We've taken steps to improve border security -- significant steps, I might add; have made great progress there. We've taken steps to improve the immigration infrastructure," said White House spokesman Scott McClellan. "Those are some foundations for moving forward on a more orderly, safe and humane migration policy.

If that's true, how is it that we have 8-12 million illegals in this country? Under who's watch did they sneak in? Shouldn't someone have to explain why they are here in the first place? IMHO, an amnesty for illegals will be the ruination of GW's chances at a second term.....
