I am a retired army chaplain.

President Bush should NOT go to the funerals.

A funeral is a private, family/unit gathering that is designed for dealing with grief.

We intentionally banned the media from attendance at these events to protect the dignity of the families.

The media would NECESSARILY follow the president. They would invade the privacy and moments of extreme grief with inane, politicized, insensitive invasions. They would attempt to trick, mislead, and manipulate persons in grief.

The president should NOT attend. The media should NOT be there. I speak from personal experience.

If EVER a president were to attend a funeral it should be TOTALLY CLANDESTINE, the media should be BANNED, and no word should EVER be spoken of it.
