This would be a fate worse than death for Saddam. He will not be able to rest in his grave.

It would make a great Kurd/Shiite paintball gamepark?

Critics say the move will show the world that the U.S. intends to remain the true power in Iraq. Waaaaaah...

I was actually thinking that it would be a great property for some big plush hotel chain to develop as a resort. Once the peace does settle in, a lot of the large hospitality chains are eventually going to move in and develop Baghdad as a destination.

Furthering my idea, the powers that be ought to sell if for 50 gazillion bucks to Radisson or Meridien and use the money for rebuilding the country. Earmark the bucks for one specific purpose, like electricity.

Richard K. Betts, director of the Institute of War and Peace Studies at Columbia University in New York (says) "If we want a credible signal that we'll fade into the background after liberating the country, the choice could hardly be worse." Want to bet this is some leftwing front group embedded into academia. In order to assauge feelings of U.S. dominance, a gallows could be erected at the front gate from which to let Saddam swing.

Thanks, Kat. (^: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
U.S. bombs never hit Saddam Hussein's grandiose presidential palace in Baghdad, making its ample meeting rooms and vast conference tables an ideal headquarters for U.S.-led occupation authorities after the war.
Now the building the physical seat and biggest symbol of Saddam's 23-year dictatorship is the likely site for the next U.S. Embassy in Iraq, U.S. officials in Washington and Iraq said this week.

Considering the fact that we are GIVING them $18 billion dollars to help them rebuild, and considering we picked up the tab for most (if not all) of the liberation, they should not resent in the least our having a very nice embassy.

Great picture! :)

Bump!

Seems like it would be the perfect site since the secured 'green' zone is already set up and would be advantageous during the transition in use of the building.
