Bush scoffed at a question seeking his reaction to Schroeder's statement on Thursday that international law must apply to the awarding of the contracts.
"International law? I better call my lawyer," he said.

I am thinking of a former college professor who is having a heart attack right now. He thought international law was the end all and that Americans should become citizens of the world like the French.

The decision to bar war opponents like France, Russia and Germany from the contracts generated outrage in Europe and triggered new transatlantic tensions. Why are they so upset? They didn't want to be there in the first place.
To: FreeManWhoCan
There is no "international law" it is a fiction concoted to justify outrage. International law is what two nations say it is.
This is just germany taking on airs after the steal back down.

I saw this. He was in high good humor, too. Ha!

Well it's a very simple principle that the EU and WTO cry babies are going to have to accept.
It's OUR money that we're spending on these contracts so in essence they are going to be working for us while doing the work.
We are free to choose who will, and who will not participate in the bidding process and who will or will not do the work we're paying for.
If they don't like it then maybe they should think about how their refusal to participate will be rewarded the next time.

How does Inernational Law apply to how the U.S. decides to use U.S. taxpayer money?? What a bunch of B.S.

I actually caught about 90 seconds of David Gergen slamming the President for this decision on the News w/Brian Williams. He was just beside himself with the decision and was just certain it would ruin international relations.
But then as someone else mentioned, can you imagine the political fallout if US tax dollars were going to France to reconstruct Iraq?
Most Americans are with the President on this. Most media elites are worried about what the Europeans think.

According to the Euroweasels, "international law" applies to everything from the atrocity of having a more vibrant economy than they, to the horror of allowing individuals to own weapons for self-defense.

This seems to be the new intenational catch phrase.
I pressed a young German on this recently and all he could answer was the lame "The UN's charter"
Well, you need more than that to call it a law.
Also the new international criminal court in the Hague has no law on the books, it just received it's first case. They seem to be making law on the fly and will use precedents for future trials?
Oh, what a socialistic world we live in..............

Classic! Thanks for the post.

Why are they so upset? They didn't want to be there in the first place. They want to eat cake. They did not want to work to make the kitchen safe to make the cake. They just want the fruit of others' blood, tears, and sweat.

I just heard the sound bit. OMG I was truly laughing out load.

I still can's stop laughing. Lets enjoy this as much as we can. It's not every day that Dubya lets loose like that. Can you imagine the faces of some of these people that are offended? Too many to mention... Oh jeez here I go again... bwahahaha...

This president is becoming so Churchillian (if that's not a word, I just made it one) that he seems to have been cloned from the guy in the upper paddock. It's so refreshing to observe a straight shooter in action. I just wish he'd be so colorful in dealing with the minority senate, which his majority cannot or will not slap silly.
Who's his international lawyer? I guess it's Sandra O'Connor, knowing how concerned she is with international law and such.......
