It's people like these that keep the Harry Browne's and pat buchanans in business. I've always enjoyed the love affair between some people and the third party candidates.
Sure Browne and buchanan talk a great game and promise the moon...all the time knowing that they will never need to deliver on a single campaign promise.
Vote your principles...it keeps Browne and buchanan from having to get real jobs.

Good point. Browne and Buchanen can say anything they want because they never have to make any REAL decisions.
Reagan said it, and it's true for Bush as well. It's a whole different ball game when you're the one who has to make the tough decisions. The far right couldn't tolerate the reality of Reagan's having to make choices, and they can't stand it with Bush either.
That's why they're best ignored, I suppose........

There was an excellent post up yesterday about how Reagan gave amnesty to millions of illegal aliens (something which President Bush hasn't actually done yet).
It was interesting how many of these types found ways to defend Reagan but still condemn President Bush.

It's called "selective memory" CWO. Reagan wrote himself about the intolerance of the far right toward him, and their condemnation of compromise.
But now it's George W. Bush's turn to be the object of their venom, and they've elevated Reagan to sainthood. Interesting twist, IMO.
In reality, both men are/were outstanding Presidents, unafraid to stand up for America and for freedom abroad, with faults to be sure (duhhhh), but both strong and determined to what is right before God and man.
We should be thankful for both men.

I'm pretty happy actually. But thanks for your concern.

Compare spending during the Reagan years with a Democrat Congress vs. spending during the Bush years with a Republican Congress. Reagan didn't give away the farm. And Reagan actually knew the function of a veto.

Thank you for your thoughtful insight. Fortunately, the rest of the American population, including the RATS, made my service worthwhile in comparison.
Obviously I have struck a nerve. A nerve that really needed striking. It exposed what someone less polite would call a genuine asshole. Of course, I would never use such language.

If that comment came from someone who mattered, I might be offended. Coming from you, who carefully avoids any reference to milittary experience, but apparently has nothing but contempt for those of us who did serve, it means nothing except for a confirmation of your own irrelevence.

"National defense and upholding your oath of office are not mutually exclusive."
Indeed, and President Bush has done a very good job of doing both.

"Reagan didn't give away the farm."
Actually Reagan did ... farm subsidies continued apace under Reagan. :-)
"And Reagan actually knew the function of a veto."
Yes, but he still signed a social security tax increase willingly.
Ironically, the man with the most vetos under his belt in last 40 years was Gerald Ford, our least conservative president - but then he was facing a raging liberal Democrat controlled Congress, so he did what he had to do.
Nobody is perfect, not Reagan not GWB, not anyone. But in my book, Reagan is the best President in my lifetime, and GW Bush is the 2nd best in my lifetime. Bush would have to screw up a lot more than just CFR and spending to make up Bush is #2 for excellent service to our nation in the War on Terror, for winning the Senate, for standing up to the UN on Kyoto, ICC, and for nominating qualified law-interpreting conservative judges, etc. Bush would have to screw up a lot more than just CFR and spending for any Conservative to knock him off the Presidential silver medalist position. JMHO.
