Actually, this guy may have just seen an M1A2SEP pull up with a high-pressure M256 120mm Cannon and let loose with a HEAT round at close range. The fireball from the 95,000PSI, built-up inside the cannon, and the resulting detonation of the HEAT round probably melted everything in front of, and to the forward sides of, the tank and the shockwave pushed the molten matter out of the way. This would look like a 'ripple' as cooler (ie not 4000 Deg C) air came rushing into the vacume created by the M1's Main Gun. The detonation of the HEAT round may look like light lightening as the plasma jet forms. The jet, combined with the round's tracer tail and the fireball itself would form one continuous streak to the human eye.
The object lesson here (the same one we teach new soldiers and officers at Ft Knox) is stay away from the pointy end of the M1's Main Gun!!
BTW, I really like your homepage Optimistically_conservative!
