They wanted it because individuals such as Soros can spend his money doing it and thereby saving the Party Coffers if I am not mistaken and understand the bill the way I have heard it explained.
Most rich liberals are kooky enough to spend their money and attach their names to these adds. Most rich Conservative Republicans like their counterparts in Congress will not really stand and fight and put their name out there.
Of course I could be wrong about part of this statement only time will tell.

Mistake? I don't think Dubya sees it way. If you are assuming that Dubya is a man of principle, that is your "mistake."

Well now Captain, that would simply be your opinion and you know what they say about opinions.

I wouldn't consider it a sell-out to use the itty-bit of political power in my vote to keep someone like Hitler out of office, but I guess that just falls to a difference of opinion.

So where is YOUR point of no return? Are you really okay with Dean in office because you felt that the GOP didn't cater enough to our percentage of the right and withheld your support? A redo of 1992? Isn't it a tad unpatriotic to allow someone in office that despises America and and is willing to turn her over to the UN?

Bush has had a bit more of an unusual term in office than Reagan had, no? Aside from the obvious given 9/11, the recession, etc, he's had to negotiate with an extremely hostile left in Congress over which we hold only the tiniest majority. I imagine 9/11 interrupted all his plans and goals he had going into the White House, how different would his administration have been? He's wanted to revamp Social Security, that took a back seat. He wanted to privitize large segments of govt employees, also, again pushed aside while he spent his time constantly juggling larger priorities. I don't think he ever got the room to make the conservative changes he had planned on.

I don't agree with everything he's done myself and certainly agree that people should be able to criticize his actions, but what we've been seeing on the right is not just disagreement with his policies. Some freepers seem to despise him with as much passion as the socialists do, and others appear to absolutely believe there is really no difference between Bush and Gore or Dean and that the country would be in the same place whether the GOP or Dems are in the White House. Sorry, but that is absurd. It's extremely dangerous at this point, too, while our Democrat Party has joined forces with our enemies abroad. The other half of our country is now allied with the EU, UN, and socialist/communist parties via International Answer, etc.

I'm happy to hear that you still intend to vote for Bush, but there are many "conservatives" here that are trying to convince others not to.

No, it doesn't. They just have to organize themselves differently.

The bill effectively prevents liberal special interest groups like labor unions, NAACP, NARAL, and GreenPeace from broadcasting ads that slam Republicans.

Not at all ... Dan Jennings, Peter Brokaw, Tom Rather, and all their local news imitators can always "interview" "experts" from these organisations, in the course of some sort of "news report" dealing with "important issues". Simple, effective, and legal.

How does one vote for Bush and not send the message, "Go ahead and do what you want, including dismantle the Bill of Rights, and I'll vote for you no matter what, as long as you're not as bad as Dean"?

Maybe your time would be better spent lobbying the GOP to fix this mess fast, instead of lobbying FReepers to vote for Bush.

...now what happens?

Now we redouble our efforts to support the only President who is likely to get justices on the court who will respect the Constitution -- George W. Bush.

Maybe your time would be better spent trying to teach other American voters the value of conservative principles, instead of lobbying Freepers to not vote the GOP?

Case in point... how many letters to editors have you written lately? I've written three this week. When was the last time you went to a bipartisan board or newsgroup that was overtaken by the left and explained why the predominant messages on the board were wrong? I just did yesterday. How much time did you spent bitching about the Drug Prescription Plan to other Freepers versus going to the AARP boards and explaining to the folks demanding it why it would hurt the country in the long run? That's where I spent my time while it was being debated.... not griping on a useless ego-trip with folks who already KNEW voters shouldn't be demanding it.

Lord save us from political juveniles who think the voters will move right by magic if we just screech loudly enough at the politicians.

Ahhh, the voice of reason. I almost forgot what that sounded like ;-)

Once again, my home-slice Chafee dissapoints!

He's really cruisin' for a bruisin' come election day. We've had enough of his RINO ways.

It's too difficult to answer my questions? How many letters/posts/communications to centrists or liberals promoting the values of conservatism?

Just as I guessed... none.

Get a copy of the UN Charter. That will be replacing our Constitution unless ivory-tower conservatives get a clue. The precarious position the country is in already is directly due to the right's tantrum of 1992... let's keep it up! If we can't have America exactly as we want her right now, let's throw her to the dogs.

Wrong again. More baseless charges from you.

how many letters to editors have you written lately? I've written three this week. Really!? Good for you. How many were published?

going to the AARP boards and explaining to the folks demanding it why it would hurt the country in the long run? That's where I spent my time while it was being debated

How'd it turn out? I voted for Bush and Republicans so it wouldn't happen. I'd say we both had the same success.

Maybe your time would be better spent trying to teach other American voters the value of conservative principles

What do you think I'm trying to do with you?
