Well, if the decision was intended to broaden the appeal of the charity, that means they expect that it will increase the donations, right? And so it may, but I sure wouldn't be betting that way at the moment.

Without Christmas, would they have this fund this time of the year? Enough said.

This toilet paper is published in Bucks County, which is a Philadelphia suburban area. The paper is at least as liberal as the Inquirer, but with the kind of 10th-grade writing skills you see above.
Obviously, the problem with the paper's hand-wringing "explanation" is that this time of year IS this time of year - - "the holiday season" - - BECAUSE of Christmas. (I also have no doubt that these mice have no clue that "Holiday" MEANS "Holy Day".)
If this paper wants to have a multi-cultural, politically correct "Holiday Fund", then let them have it during, say, Ramadan. Let Christmas be Christmas. In any event, my wife and I will no longer participate in this paper's charities..... or subscription.

I hope the "Holiday Fund" is down about 50% this year

We really do. We really are.
Psychologically, I'd say these little speech tics are like someone looking you straight in the eye while he lies to you, because he thinks that will make you believe him.

We didn't drop Give-A-Christmas in favor of Holiday Fund in a politically correct effort to minimize religion
Oh, really? Who celebrates Christmas? Who exactly is celebrating these "holidays"?
To: Lancey Howard
Happy Nothing Day, Members of The Board! You are working December 25th, of course, as "Winter Holiday" has not been designated as a day off. Maasalama!

But we also recognize that ours is a nation of mixed cultures and religions. And non-Christians are among the nation's fastest growing populations. That's the worst news I've heard all day.

We didn't drop Give-A-Christmas in favor of Holiday Fund in a politically correct effort to minimize religion. Oh, how clever! They anticipate any person's common sense reaction and they proceed in an attempt to neutralize it from the getgo right there in the very first sentence! Except that it ain't working!

..we get it. We really do. We understand why some folks are upset about the name change for our annual fund drive. We've read all the letters - and we sympathize...It's not enough, to slap our culture in the face. They have to be patronizing about it, too.

Dear Bucks County Courier Times:
If you are truly interested in "maximizing the fund's appeal by welcoming the newcomers' participation," you can simply create separate funds for each of the growing demographic groups that is allegedly prompting the change in the name of your holiday charity. I suspect that you realize this would have been a useless exercise, since the cost of creating multiple funds like this would have exceeded the combined contributions to the "Give-A-Kwanzaa," "Give-A-Jihad," and whatever other idiotic charities you would have created.
In addition, I strongly suspect that there is a certain amount of hypocrisy going on at your newspaper. If I sat down right now and wrote a check for $50 to the "Give-A-Christmas" fund, I am quite certain that my use of the old name would not keep you from cashing it.
Sincerely,
Alberta's Child

What is really funny ...
I mean really funny as in
How many of these fools realize where the word Holiday comes from?
"Holiday" originates form "Holy Day", thus
"Happy Holidays" can easily elicit the following reply, "Happy Holy Days to you as well!!"
I have had some fun with this.

We understand your wanting to broaden your scope, really we do, but we're going to give to another charity that isn't ashamed of it's reason for being. We wish you luck with your new broadened base, really we do.
To: Lancey Howard
Boycott the charity -- and boycott the firms that advertisein this rag. And let the stores know why you're not buying there.
Ads are why newspapers exist. If they drive customers away instead of bringing them in, management hears about it pretty darn soon.
