Ayn Rand used to say that the fight to save America wasn't over as long as we have free speech.

She's dead too.

Pay attention, everyone --

When they took the fourth amendment,
I was quiet because I didn't deal drugs.
When they took the sixth amendment,
I was quiet because I was innocent.
When they took the second amendment,
I was quiet because I didn't own a gun.
Now they've taken the first amendment,
and I can say nothing about it.

GWB is going to have to relay on more than SCOTUS to fix a great many things he has burdened me and my children with.

Gore could not have gotten away with as much socialsisim has W has.

I do have another that I'm not sure of: Is there not a provision in the 17th amendment that says that if enough votes stay home, such that the percentage of votes cast is lower than X% of all voters, that the government can be suspended?

Way off base...

Amendment XVII

The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each State shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the State legislatures.

When vacancies happen in the representation of any State in the Senate, the executive authority of such State shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided, That the legislature of any State may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct.

This amendment shall not be so construed as to affect the election or term of any Senator chosen before it becomes valid as part of the Constitution.

What happened to those in FR who were convinced that the SC will overturn this law? What happened to their 8-ball?

They're too busy explaining how the new Prescription Drug Plan will ensure the privatization of Medicare to bother explaining why they were wrong on CFR.

The libs have few issues left at this point. The administration has stolen - aka, adopted - virtually their entire platform

Was it a 7 judge panel, with 4 judges being Republician.?

Our Republic has been officially terminated. We are now an oligarchy, ruled by the few who have forcibly taken power in Washington DC. The means to secure peaceful change may no longer be in our grasp.

Those who make peaceful change impossible, make violent revolution inevitable. (John F. Kennedy)

I'm afraid you may be right...

I can't figure this one out... The SCOTUS rules that exotic dancing is protected "free speech," but buying political advertisements before an election is NOT protected "free speech."

This definately turns the entire concept of the Bill of Rights on it's head.

If congress can outlaw political expression, they'll certainly try to outlaw and confiscate privately owned guns. They'll have to.

I've never heard that, Rina, but that doesn't mean much. Unfortunately, even if it were true, and even if that provided an "out" for the people to take back their government, it still wouldn't happen. With probably 95% of the public, if you tried to convince them that the country is in dire straits, and that the Constitution is all but meaningless as far as its original intent, they'd view you as a pure whacko. The public is a complacent mass.

I am an optimistic kinda guy, but this one really knocked me for a loop.

At best, these justices should be impeached, at worst they should be run out of town on a rail, complete with tar and feathers. I sickened, but I ain't dead yet. I plan to fight this decision with all my power. The writing campaign has just begun.

After this decision it just may take armed revolution by The People to get back our Constitutional rights from these bastards, these traitors, these power hungery slugs that suck the freedom out of us by the day.

Note to GW: You should have vetoed this piece of crap.

Note to Republicans: You had better get busy and fix this thing or you are going to see the beginning of the second American Revolution, and I don't mean at the ballot box.

I'll die on my feet before I'll live on my knees and I mean that with all my heart and soul. The Supremes just gave me a chance to prove my convictions, they have taken away my 1st liberty. Our founding fathers are spinning in their graves right now.

We'd better start this thing soon, before they get to the second amendment. My faith in our legislators, president, and judicial system is GONE. The only faith I have left is in my fellow Americans and the Constitution of these here United States.

I'm going to get good and knee crawlin', fallin' down, commode huggin' drunk and write very nasty letters to all my representatives and maybe a few SC Justices. No threats, just a big can of ugly (as we say in Texas).

(With glass of bourbon held high) Here's to the Constitution of these here United States of America, and to THE PEOPLE for which is stands, and to the tree of liberty that my blood will soon feed! (GULP) There's the first "shot" of this revolution, and I'm pouring the second. Keep your powder dry and your liquor stocked, you're going to need both!

God will take my life before a man takes my liberty!

"The two major groups in this country are not Republicans and Democrats. They are the Ruling Class and The Rest of Us."

Yes, I know, and have thought that for years. I guess I still had hope, though, that the last presidential election might change things for the better. Instead the country has been turned on its ear without a fight, because it was done by a "Republican." I fear for my precious grandson.

President Bush is a good and decent man, an effective and excellent president. He made a serious mistake signing this legislation. He didn't write the legislation.

The remedy is to pressure lawmakers to repeal the law, or work to elect lawmakers who will. No one else can do that for us. We must do it ourselves.

President George W. Bush has proven to be uncaring of American's Constitutional rights but VERY caring of his oil budddies.

We have an election looming between the Emperor with no clothes and the Best of the Nine Dwarves.

May the Almighty have mercy on us.

You're not alone. I also feel fooled and outraged.

There is one unlikely explanation for this ruling. The Bill was flawed when it was written and everyone expected the SC to fix it if it got passed. Then it got passed, despite the fact that everyone knew it was flawed. And W, even though he knew it was flawed, signed it into law, expecting that the SC would fix the mess later. Well, it's later. I think that it's a (slim) possibility that the SC wanted to send a message that when the Congress drafts and passes crappy legislation they know is flawed and the President signs it into law knowing that it is flawed, they aren't going to come along afterward and clean up the hores poop. This may be their way of telling the other 2 branches that when they ,ake crappy laws, they will have to clean up there own messes.

But, that's the optomist in me. The realist doesn't believe a word of that. The realist knows that we got royally screwed by our own government ignoring the very laws that define how they operate and limiting the power of the government.

Alas, it is nice to point out a flaw in such a respected author's statement. Ayn Rand was wrong!!
The fight isn't over as long as we bear our arms. The 2nd guarantees the rest.
And now, I do hope you realize that guns without ammo are worthless and you go out and buy another box today. Makes an excellent Christmas gift!

I really dont understand this thing because every news channel says something different about it and most commentators and their guest have differing views.
I guess it is like most laws and is full of loop holes so it can afford another lawyer a chance to get rich from it.
Watching Brit Hume's show last night it appeared the only real problem was for the Political parties, pacs and special interest funding these commercials. From what I gathered it did not apply to individuals because they mentioned George Soros and said he could still as an individual put out the adds.I hope I am interpeting it correctly.Hell nothing is done in layman terms in DC because most of them are affraid they will get caught.
From one of the news items I heard Justice Scalia said it was terrible and I pretty much have confidence in his opinions that I have read.
As far as the Republicans on the bench, I dont know if they in fact are registered Republicans or were just appointed by a Republican. But in either case I know some Presidents who appointed some of them are very dissappointed.
I personally think politicians should have to run as Conservative,Moderate or Liberal but just like the word "IS" was to Clinton the same situation would prevail. Most of it appears like a feel good situation in DC and whatever the flavor of the month.Regardless most of the interpretations coming from SCOTUS are now being portrayed as being fluid and not etched in stone.Laws have to change from day to day I guess so lawyers can get rich for doing nothing but keeping us under control and in their grip.
It is sad some folk could have been put in jail or even executed in the past over laws that are interpeted different today. The law and the Judicial System is not what it is cracked up to be. All opinions and nothing real solid it appears.
Bush has made some boners but is still better than any Liberal Democrat or any of those that are running. The Dems march in such lockstep and have been taken over by the liberal wing. I couldnt vote for one against Hussein.

SCOTUS has no lawful authority to overturn our ratified Constitution: "Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech..."

Our RATIFIED Constitution is the Law of OUR Land, not what 5 rogue, agenda driven federal employees order.

Impeachment and removal from office mus be our goal to recapture our Republic nearly lost to transnational socialst utopians, corrupted into fascism.

Just wait for Emergency Powers Declarations suspending our ratified constitution, citing extant Executive Orders, which only have lawful authority over employees of the government, but still subject to limits of our ratified Constitution, the only Law of our Land.

Marshal law is not a power granted to our federal government.

Vote to remove from office these domestic enemies of our Constitution.

Yeah. I suppose--the supposition is tepid at best--we're better off with Bush. I suppose it could've been worse with Gore, and it would definitely be worse with Hillary. In any event, I still find it stunning that so many could be so giddy over Bush's reign. Government expanded. Freedoms lost. Conservative principles utterly abandoned. Hard to figure.
